If you live in the Grand Junction (or Gateway) area, you can fall in love with the Tabaguache (TAB-uh-wasch) Trail and it's nearby cousins. From the trailheads (Lunch Loops, Little Park, and Bangs Canyon) you can explore many options both short, full day, or multi-day hikes. The Tabaguach trail runs on BLM land all the way to Montrose, but I... More

The full Tabeguache trail covers 142 miles. We only visited the section that passes through the Lunch Loops mountain biking area. I highly recommend the Lunch Loops trails for all ages and abilities. There is everything from a pump track with varying sized jumps to extreme downhill trails. I've seen 3 year olds riding their Striders over the small bumps... More

We enjoyed a morning hike on the Mica Mine trail with a family group including young children and everyone had a good time! The trail is not too difficult and is about 2 miles round-trip. At the end of the trail, there's a cave and lots of mica and quartz rocks that kids love to look at and pick up... More

My favorite place to grab a quick or long hike. Keep alert for mountIn bikers on the fly. There is staging area for parking on Monument Road on the way to the Colorado National Monument- a must see drive. There are many connecting trails for a stroll or a serious hike or bike. Need good walking shoes and bring some... More

A popular trail. Bring water. Fairly easy hiking and mountain biking. Don't take a dirt bike. At the junction of Hwy 141, you need to carry your bike a short way.

pronounced "tab a watch". This trail, like others in the nearby Colorado Monument, has fascinating views of many rock layers and a variety of patterns of erosion. Every turn in the trail was a new discovery.

i had been hiking/biking/running the general area of the T trail since before it officially became an established (mostly for mtn biking) trail. I think that it was established in no small part to be the Montrose area's version of the then-long-established and popular Kokopelli trail (which goes from Mack or Loma (CO) to outside of Moab. I have not... More

There is a trail near the head of the Tabeguache Trail called Mica Mine. I hiked down into the canyon on easy to follow paths on the way to the Mica Mine. We walked along the dry creek bed and were wowed by the beauty and quiet of this place. There were many desert flowers blooming including several on cacti.... More

It totally takes you to the wrong place! Look for "Lunch Loop" instead, maybe?? We drove around aimlessly on dirt roads for a while before we realized.

Unaweep Canyon. This drive can turn into quite an adventure. Be on the lookout for Desert Bighorn Sheep, as they live in this canyon. We were lucky enough to find a pull out, (caution: this is a narrow, winding road with moderate traffic). Perfect place to have a picnic along the creek in the bottom of the canyon.
