About
Fisherman's Cove is a quaint 200 year old fishing village. It offers visitors a peek into the past while providing a variety of modern day activities for the whole family. It has the sounds of the ocean, seagulls, and sand pipers. Stroll the boardwalk and relax in the sand at MacCormack's Beach. Catch a glimpse of the osprey and herons as they enjoy fishing off the beach. Watch fishing boats come home with their catch and sail boats drift by as they enter the Halifax Harbour through the eastern passage.

Nice little shops with pleasant people to distract you. Nice walking trail around the cove. Luckily it survived the Hurricane with little damage.

While it was scenic enough, and we enjoyed the vistas out on to the water with the city of Halifax in the distance, the village itself leaved a bit to be desired...it was not as lively as we'd hoped. We were sort of expecting there to be some period interpreters from a historical society, or something that would bring it more to life. But the huts themselves were well decorated and arranged, and sold a variety of interesting trinkets and whatnot.

This is interesting to walk though. At our stage of life (76 and 77), we don't buy many souvenirs, but the buildings are colourful, and the ice cream was very good!

Our first visit to Fishermen's Cove. This is a lengthy strip of quaint little craft shacks, beautifully presented and maintained. Having been to Peggy's Cove many times, I'd rate this close as a place to spend an hour or too or take visitors. The boutiques were all crammed with interesting things and, without exception, all operators were fun and interesting to talk to. Parking is easy. There are many, many benches outside the shops along the boardwalk for husband's to sit waiting while solving the world's problems. Overall a great tourist spot. They say it gets very busy in the summer season.

A short drive from Halifax and enjoy the quaint local shops. Stroll along the boardwalk for some nice views along the waterfront. Tons of free parking.

I saw some great photos and tought it would be more like a small village but it was only some random mini houses all transformed into tourist boutiques (they were all closed at this time). There was not really good views of the little bay and it was industrial zone… I did not even take a photo.

Absolutely delightful boardwalk with ample parking featuring an ice cream shop, candy shop, and a couple of restaurants for a more substantial bite to eat. Boat and jet ski rentals add to the fun. Will definitely be back once Covid is over and more shops are open.

Our friend took us on a brief tour of Halifax which included a visit to Fisherman’s Cove. This is a tourist’s delight with its many gift shops, food / restaurant choices, and great views of the surrounding waters and countryside.

Visited Fisherman's cove on each trip to Nova Scotia and absolutely love the ice creams. Get a really good portion size for the money compared to other venue's and we all love the flavors and variety.
If you don't fancy the ice creams have some of their candy or one of their milk shakes.
Highly recommend.
On a separate note: you can paddle in the sea at quite a distance on without it getting too deep. Kids love to hunt for shells and crabs.

How do I get there from the Ramada without our own vehicle?

We used the GPS on the vehicle. If you have a smart phone you can also use Google maps to navigate for you. Otherwise the route seemed quite complex.

How to get there on our own from the Cruise Docks without taking a tour.

It is a 25 minute car ride from downtown Halifax (cruise docks). If you take the ferry from Halifax to Dartmouth and the #60 bus it will let you off about a 1/2 mile from the area, otherwise you really need a taxi (expensive) or rent a car ( not worth it if only going there). It is not an easy place to describe how to get to - you would want to use a GPS.

We are taking a cruise that stops in Halifax. We want to go to Fisherman's Cove. You said you took the ferry from downtown and then the # 60 bus to get there. Is that difficult to find and do? Appreciate any pointers and help you can provide in assisting us to get there from the cruise docks.

Depending on your visit the shops are open until early November, you can take the Halifax/Dartmouth Ferry. On a weekday take the Ferry to Downtown Dartmouth and then catch the #60 Bus to Eastern Passage. The Ferry to Downtown Dartmouth runs every 15 minutes during the day and every 1/2 hour on weekends.
Or you could take the Ferry to Downtown Dartmouth, then take a taxi to Eastern Passage. Depending on how much time you have you can also book a boat ride out of the Fishermans Cove to deep sea finishing or touring McNab's Island.
Not sure what the cost would be for a taxi the Ferry Ride would be around $2.50 (correct change) and this would include a transfer for the bus. Then on the way back it would be 2.50 for the bus ride and that includes a pass for the Ferry. (if you are over 65 the costs is 1.75.
Hope this helps, I am sure if you ask someone would be pleased to help out.

We are a family of 5 and would like to try clam digging. Where can we go to do this???? Cost or a guide to show us???

Afraid I do not know the answer. The other two responses suggest contacting Dept of fisheries to grind out the season. Don't dig except just anywhere as you can get sick from clams dug in areas with Red Tide.
