I summited Mt. Elbert 10 days ago for the second time. I'd forgotten what a long slog it can be, especially the descent. I led a group of 6 other first time 14'er hikers and it was a magnificent day in the splendor of the...More

I'm afraid of heights. But you should go. I loved it anyway. Whether you are camping nearby, or staying in Leadville this is a place of beauty.

I did the north side trail head. Overall, a nice hike that will indeed give you the body and lung work out. Once out of the trees, the trail gets even steeper. The views are grand and meeting lots of great people make this a...More

This mountain is highly accessible, and has several well established trails to get to the top. We underestimated the impact of the altitude, which slowed us down considerably. If you're coming from low altitude like we were, don't try to tackle this peak until you're...More

We had an awesome time climbing this peak on a 13 mile round trip from the Lake View Camp grounds area. Note that this is not an easy climb and we saw many unprepared hikers. Start early and bring lots of water! Must be below...More

A great Class 1 Fourteener for anyone who wants to bag the second highest peak in the lower 48. The trailhead parking lot has bathrooms for men and women and is well maintained. The hike to the tree line is well worn with switchbacks. Make...More

I wore Salomon trail running shoes, shorts and two top layers. Put sunscreen on at the tree line. And wear a hat. Pack light but with enough water and some nutrition.
