Salida means exit in Spanish. That's a befitting name for a small town (with two stoplights) nestled at the base of the Colorado Rockies because it allows visitors to navigate through those mountains on their way to somewhere else. However, you'll miss Salida - part local art gallery, part outdoorsman paradise and part historic attractions. "S" mountain is a great... More

You can drive to the top, snap a few photos and drive back to town in 30 min max. The views at the top shoe the entire town which was nice. You don't even need to get out of your car if you don't want to. There's really no point in climbing up the few stairs to the base of... More

When you tire from walking around downtown Salida and want to get some great pics, drive up, park near the staircase, bathed walk up the 45 steps to the top. It's free, fun, and has beautiful panoramic views. The road to drive up is located about 5 minutes drive from the center. Bike up from the parking lot downtown by Riverside... More

Drive up unless you are a strong young thing. The view is exceptional. It is good for photographers. If you are into geology, you will notice that it is an ancient basalt bubble.

Great drive to the top. Has a few stop offs so you can take some pictures. There are also several bike trails that look challenging to all. Once you reach the top you have a beautiful view of Salida and the mountains that go as far as the eye can see. A must do.

Due to an event, we could not make it to the top. The local Kiwanis club was dropping rubber balls for a charitable event. The local kids were collecting the balls that had various amounts of cash prises associated with some of the rubber balls.

I love driving up and down the dirt road leading up to spiral drive, but I don't usually go to the top unless I want to burn lots of gas! Its steep and a great thrill!

A trip to Salida is not complete without a trip up to Mount Tenderfoot . You can hike up or ride your mountain bike right from town . Or drive up on the dirt road . The view is well worth the trip .
