We took our time and drove through several of the side roads in our jeep. Beautiful area with plenty of wildlife to view.

This is a must when in the Steamboat area. There are many hiking options and none better than the "Zirkel Circle" loop from the Slavonia trailhead to Gilpin Lake on to Gold Creek Lake and back. Gilpin lake is gourgeous and is surrounded by amazing...More

This is my favorite hike in the Steamboat area, but acclimate yourself to the altitude before going or be prepared for a long slow hike but worth it at the end. The travels to the Wilderness area take you through Clark with radar traps for...More

We loved our 6 hr moderate loop hike on gold creek lake trail to gilpin lake yesterday. Perfect weather. Hardly any people. Serene and gorgeous surroundings and views. The purple, yellow, pink and white wildflowers were stunning so it seemed like spring, at the same...More

We hiked the Circle to Gilpin Lake, the Circle Pass and back down to the Slovonia trail head. This was a stunning hike! The uphill is challenging but the view from the Circle Pass is worth the effort. Wildflowers, giant alluvial borders and two lakes...More

We loved hiking Zirkel Circle today! My sons, ages 14 and 11 also enjoyed the hike. We think the hike was 10-12 miles and all downhill on the return. There was mention of a "cinnamon bear" sighting along the way. Highlights were walking across a...More

The “Zirkel Circle” is easily one of our top-five hikes in the United States. If you plan to do hike the full circle, then plan for an all-day hike. Hiking guides list the full circle at anywhere between 10-12 miles. We used a tracking wearable...More

My sister and I did this quick hike (2 miles one way) to see the famous Mad Barn. Lots of parking and bathroom at the trail head. Very healthy forest in this area but be prepared for a mostly exposed trail with patches of shade....More

Hiked the trail to "The Barn" with our daughter, her husband and our dogs. It is a well-travelled bike and hiking trail, but worth the crowds to get to "The Barn." It's amazing this was once a homestead/ranch. Very hardy people!!

No, this can only be hiked, with that being said, one side is shorter than the other. It’s a little challenging with the elevation and different terrain, but you still may be able to make it from the lot up.

You can camp where you like. Just be sure to know the rules of a wilderness area, such as making camp off the trail and at least 100 ft from water sources. It's beautiful there! Have fun!
