Hundreds of miles of remote trails out here. Such a short drive from town and you find yourself in very secluded wilderness. Try the Gold Lake loop and eat at the Clark General Store coming back home.

Awesome hike. It does take the full 6 hours and we barely stopped for long... except for amazing pictures along the way! We went counterclockwise and found this to be worth the view coming from high above gilpin lake. Bring layers and ready to cross...More

Great area to hike! But the last five miles or so of the drive will rattle you in your car. New to the area I'd never known about this place had I not stopped in to the outdoor hiking information place next to the Steamboat...More

We hiked the GoldCreek Lake trail up and back with our 11 & 14 year olds. Challenging on the way up, but easy down. If I were to do it again I think we would plan for the full loop, only 3 miles longer than...More

The Zirkel area is a Rocky Mountain treasure. Gold Lake is beautiful, and the trail along Gold Creek to the lake is very scenic and peaceful. Stream crossings can be tricky. The Mica Trail is also very beautiful and unique, although steep. The waterfall cutting...More

This area just north of Steamboat Springs offers great hiking, camping, and fishing. It includes the Wyoming Trail that follows the Continental Divide. Very pristine!

I won't lie; this trial is very hard to find. The map and directions they gave us at the Steamboat visitors center was barely helpful but we eventually figured it out and it was totally worth it! You have to drive for quite awhile on...More

No, this can only be hiked, with that being said, one side is shorter than the other. It’s a little challenging with the elevation and different terrain, but you still may be able to make it from the lot up.

You can camp where you like. Just be sure to know the rules of a wilderness area, such as making camp off the trail and at least 100 ft from water sources. It's beautiful there! Have fun!
