Where to begin? Poor course conditions (3 temporary greens, burned out fairways, tee boxes with little or no grass) and exceedingly slow (glacier paced) rate of play. Suggest they hire both a grounds crew and a marshal and price the golf consistent with the quality of the experience offered. Play here only if you have no other options.

We play this course at least twice a year and have for many years. This week we had 7 golfers and played on Monday, August 24, 2020. The course was in terrible condition. I called the pro shop several days in advance and was told the course had some burn out. The description of "some burn out" vastly understated the conditions of the course. Fairways and greens were very, very bad. We were told the course was not able to water greens and fairways for 5 days after losing power from intense storms that hit that area of Connecticut weeks prior.
Disappointing that the course was not forthcoming with an honest review of the course condition. We travelled 1 hour to play this course and the price of $99 was way, way too much.

I reserved my tee time online. When I arrived I learned my group would be following a "ladies tournament event". After playing (and then waiting) for 5+ hours we left the golf course without completing our round.
I'm all good if the club wants to have a tournament, but they should provide a buffer in their tee sheet so other groups don't get stuck behind some incredibly slow players. Or at least put a notice on their website indicating there is a tournament in the morning - so let the golfer beware!
I probably won't be returning to Fox Hopyard for fear of another slow round. It's just not fun!

Four women sat for dinner and had nice waitress who was attentive and provided good service. Could tell towards then end of our dinner it got busy and they seemed a bit understaffed, however our waitress still did her best. After paying we decided to go to the bar for a glass of wine before leaving and the bartender was incredibly rude and seemed put out by the fact we were there. I would go on record to say the worst, rudest service I have ever received. I am local but will think twice before returning.

For years, my family and I have been loyal patrons of On the Rocks, a casual but cozy restaurant located within the Fox Hopyard facility. We have celebrated birthdays, Christmas and other holidays here and have always had a positive experience. Little did our family know that when it came to planning one of our own's big day, this team would completely drop the ball and destroy the loyalty our family had to this business.
My sister and her fiance got engaged in the fall of 2017. They are two of the most selfless, hard-working, yet low-key individuals who wanted a familiar environment to celebrate their wedding day. I will save all of the gruesome details between what happened from the moment they were misled into thinking their event date was held - to where we are now - which is, as a family, furious, disgusted, and honestly questioning the moral compass of Fox Hopyard's questionable (at her very best, might I add) leader, Kristi.
Kristi could have won an Oscar for her performance in destroying my sister & her fiance's plans for their wedding. Not only did Kristi never follow up to confirm their date, she lied throughout the entire pre-contract process only to strip them of their venue, through an email, because she had another couple who was willing to pay more money for the same date. This is when I stepped in.
As a working professional with not only a background at one of the most prestigious golf clubs in Connecticut, but also in Event Management, Hospitality, Food and Beverage, and the Club Industry, I knew that if I could simply have a conversation with Kristi, I could make things right for my sister. I explained my work history and background to her, so she knew I was not an upset sister, but an actually colleague that was trying to work with her. I felt more than a little confident that I could help clear up the miscommunications and make things right; I refused to believe that my sister was losing her date for the reasons outlined above.
After about 45 attempts to connect with Kristi over a 24 hour period, I finally reached her - only to be greeted with the same condescension that my sister had warned me of. The conversation with nothing short of painful, but by the end of the call, I had Kristi's word that if this other "couple" had not put a deposit down for the date by THAT night at 11:59pm, they would lose the date and I could call first thing on Saturday morning when Kristi arrived to put down the deposit and again, make things right.
When I called Kristi (again, multiple times) on Saturday morning, I was greeted with yet another of her bold-faced lies. Though the other couple had not paid a deposit at that time, which she assured me was the only obstacle between our family and the date in question, they were "interested in moving forward with the contracting process". This is about the time I gave Kristi a lesson on business ethics.
AS A KICKER, In the time I spoke to Kristi on the Friday (our first conversation) to the last time I checked my emails on Friday night, this "Director of Operations/general Manager/Event Planner", aka Kristi, decided she wanted to see if what I had told her about myself was true, so she visited my page on LinkedIn. Instead of working hard to undo a terrible mistake on her part, she spent her afternoon perusing MY SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNT to see if I was lying, just like she had been doing to my family and me throughout this unbelievable runaround. Nice to know where this woman was prioritizing her time while someone's most IMPORTANT DAY OF THEIR LIFE was very quickly unraveling. She truly did not care about our family and our relationship with Fox Hopyard. All she saw were dollar signs.
Moral of the story: If you want to deal with an unprofessional, morally corrupt, dollar hungry and uneducated "Jack of All Trades" - I say this as Kristi's title(s) are not only plentiful, but truly overstatements - then please, I encourage you to try to book, and then lose your wedding date at Fox Hopyard. If you like being spoken down to, misled, and have weeks of time go by without any communication from your Event planner, Kristi is your girl! She seriously did not even have an email address for my sister until the week this whole scenario came to a screeching hault - and it was from MY sister emailing HER. To summarize: beautiful facility; amazing line-level staff; consistent food and beverage offerings; deplorable management.

Golf was good as usual. Friendly golf staff. Great time on the course. After golf proceeded to restaurant. Our party of three was clearly a bother to the staff in the bar. Greeting was cold, "seat yourselves", only to then be ignored for the next 30 minutes. Wait staff clearly saw us, but chose instead to remain glued to their cell phones, and talk among themselves. When we were finally able to get their attention, the server taking our order was totally bothered and shared a less than pleasant attitude. When our food finally arrived it wasn't very good. Hot appetizers and main entrees were cold. We did not have silverware (got it ourselves from another table), were not asked how our food was, were not asked about dessert...basically, it seemed the point was to make us feel as uncomfortable as possible so we would leave asap. The best way to sum this up is wait staff was "snotty." Will golf again, but will find someplace else for drinks and food!!

The views and the overall conditions were wonderful !!
The layout was to die for every hole was different ,not easy but fair as long as you picked your targets well. The conditions were wonderful the only rub would be the speed of the greens but that calls for ball placement and a delicate touch.

This course is in abysmal condition. What little live grass on the tee boxes is crab grass. Dead grass on every hole. Poorly maintained greens.
They appear to have given up on the place.

The Safari Club of Golf played here on September 4. It was our inaugural trip to this fantastic layout with well over one-hundred of our members in attendance.
Unfortunately, the greens had been recently punched, but we knew that going into it, and anyone with a modicum of common golf sense knows these annual maintenance issues are paramount in keeping the golf courses pristine. So no big deal there as the layout and facilities are truly SPECTACULAR.
The WOW factor was in play ALL DAY and we already have members asking if we plan on adding Fox Hopyard to our annual schdule in the future. I guess that sums up the Safari Club's experience pretty well.

Attended a wedding with people I hadn't seen for years. Had a wonderful time. It was a beautiful day and a lovely evening. The outdoor venue was perfect for the smallish group of attendees. Food was excellent and the staff was very pleasant and attentive. The view just added to a very pleasant experience.
