Been living in Connecticut all my life and have driven by, but was waiting on a good opportunity to visit, and with South Pacific playing, perfect. The place is very small but beautiful. A porch exists in the rear, but really small, along with a bar. We walked around a little and then finally went to our seats. As mentioned, very small but your "in the show", as you can see everything happening and sound not an issue. Overall great experience and will return in future (but has to be the right show).

What a wonderful place! We saw Maggie. The story was new to me and believable about a country’s loss of young people to immigration and its impact on the families left behind. The singing was amazing! It was a nice evening just to be inside the theatre.

We have a membership and go to about three shows a year. We just went and saw South Pacific. Was not the best… they made Nelly Forbush sound like a country hick, she’s supposed to be from Arkansas, and they don’t talk that way! The Frenchman sounded like a German Nazi so it was very disturbing.

Do not waste your time on Goodspeed Opera House. The staff is completely incompetent. I attempted to buy tickets online. I was able to select the seats for a particular show, but the website did not allow me to complete the purchase. I called Goodspeed Opera House. The staff-member I spoke with brought up the website on her end and acknowledged my seat selections (party of 3). She confirmed the three seats together in row K, and I made the purchase over the phone. A few days later when I went to the box office to pick up my tickets and see the show, the box office refused to give me the seats that I had selected and offered seats that separated the members of my party. I protested and insisted that they provide the seats that I paid for. They arrogantly refused without apology or concession. The staff members were indignant that I would not submit to their terms. I demanded my money back and left. I travelled from Gloucester, Massachusetts to Haddam, Connecticut to see this particular show, but the staff at Goodspeed Opera did not care about that at all. If you plan to see a show at Goodspeed Opera House, you are putting yourself at risk. I have never seen such incompetence and arrogance. The disregard for their patrons was astounding.

The Goodspeed is a beautiful playhouse and had the joy of being there for production of Christmas in Connecticut that was so well produced. Each seat in the house gives you an intimate view and I tend to think that the balcony seats allow for a better view. I took off one star, because the theater can't handle a full house. It's more than a lack of a full staff, there's not enough of anything to manage the masses of people. They should open the doors much more ahead of time.

Do not miss Gypsy as it was better than the Broadway show with Ethel Mermin . Outstanding ! I still worry about exiting if there ever was afire even with sprinklers . Shows always are excellent and prove that you don’t need Broadway as the actors are amazing and exceptional . The directing is astounding

The Goodspeed has been around since the 1870's, is intimate in size, but each year manages to produce top musical theater. We saw the musical Caberet which was excellent. The acoustics are great and because of the small size of the room, you can see all the expressions of the actors which, in the case of Caberet, really adds to the show. The seating allows a good view of the stage from everywhere so there are really no bad seats. There is a nice separate area for intermissions. Only drawback is the restrooms are fairly limited in size.

Kander and Ebb's melodic and ultimately dark musical is beautifully done with uniformly outstanding performances. The ending stuns in the literal sense, one wonders if applause is appropriate. Ultimately we do applaud, the fine cast deserves it.

We took a scenic ride up the river for dinner at a restaurant near the Opera House. It’s a beautiful historic building. Sadly, during the 2020 season it’s closed due to the Covid scare. We are looking forward to better days ahead when we will be able to enjoy live performances.

Goodspeed puts on excellent shows. drawing talent from New York and elsewhere. But it's worth a visit just to see the old Victorian décor. The stairs are a bit of a challenge. There is an elevator from ground level to the orchestra; the balcony is accessible only by stairs.
