We were very fortunate to be able to see the old drawbridge in action. A pretty cool thing to see. The drawbridge operator even encouraged people and cars to hurry off his bridge. Very entertaining. We enjoyed some ice cream and the drawbridge.

I think this is one of the nicest places in Connecticut! You can walk all around by the water and get pretty much anything you desire.

You can walk or drive across the bridge which was built in the 1920s. The clearance when not opened is only about 3 or 4 feet. You can have a good view from the porch of the Ice Cream shop on the SouthWest Side.

Perfectly balanced... fun to see it open every hour with so little effort. Right in the middle of town makes it such fun!

The bascule bridge (drawbridge) over the Mystic River is cleverly designed and built with two giant concrete counterweights that allow the span to be raised to vertical with ease by the two electric motors. Very cool when you understand how the mechanism works. Great location...More

Take a walk over the bridge along the river and watch boats come and go. Enjoy the people and shops as the breeze comes off the water. Take in as much as you can.
