I've been tubing down this section of the Farmington River for 30+ years. If the water is running fast, I wouldn't recommend taking young children unless they a good, confident swimmers. For something different on the slow sections, bring a tennis ball.

Found this rec area along 44 that would a great put in for kayaking. This particular day was dreary so no activity. Plenty of parking at least for off season.

Feeling devilish? Well, if you're in Connecticut, why not stop by the Satan's Kingdom State Recreation Area, on Route 44, just outside of New Hartford. I would do it on a hot day, because you'll be traveling on the Farmington River in tubes, kayaks, or...More

All the reviews are accurate. It's a long trip. It can be dangerous because a its a natural river but we decided the conditions were safe for our children (pretty slow mid summer). There are lots of teens. Some drinking even though there are signs...More

very easy access to the river. In the summer lots of people in the middle fishing, but much better for fishing in the fall. However, very susceptible to warming of water if dam releases are cut back

I've been here several times over the years..The price keeps going up. You're basically just paying for a tube and a ride back to your car. If you have your own tube or raft a family of 5 can save $100....just get someone to pick...More

A little pricy, but worth it. Rent a tube and float down the Farmington River, then get bussed back up. A couple sets of Rapids along the way, but nothing unsafe. The most "dangerous" spot has lifeguards attending.

The sparkling waters of the trout stream overhung with conifers makes this a delightful place to fish, picnic or just relax. Some parts of the dirt road running around the water are very narrow and one should drive cautiously so as not to go over...More

This is a gorgeous park - there are numerous spots along the river, and a small hiking trail that leads to the lifeguard station for the river tubing. One word of caution - if you're bringing young kids, go early. There's a bit of a...More
