Yale University Art Gallery is the oldest college art museum in America....

Yale University Art Gallery is the oldest college art museum in America. The Gallery’s encyclopedic holdings of 200,000 objects range from ancient times to the present day and represent civilizations from around the globe. FREE and open to the public. On December 12, 2012, the Yale University Art Gallery celebrated the grand opening of the renovated and expanded museum. The expanded Gallery transforms the visitor experience of both the museum and its esteemed collections. The project united the 1953 modernist structure designed by Louis Kahn, the 1928 Old Yale Art Gallery, and the 1866 Street Hall into one continuous structure while maintaining the distinctive architectural identity of each.

I went with my family not expecting too much. It was free so we decided to go. It ended up being one of the most diverse and incredible museums any of us had been to. So many well known artists and paintings that we did NOT think would be at yales art gallery. We spent a few hours and could... More

I've stopped doing large art galleries in one visit so we decide to spread the place over a couple of visits. That way you don't get overload. The place is modern and has many pictures you've just never seen before. Many people visit gallleries to see pictures they know...here we saw lots we didn't know. There were a couple of... More

This free museum has a very wide variety of works. Yet no one area is overwhelming. It is easy to navigate around the museum. I was there on a Saturday afternoon. I found it to be busy yet not crowded.

Always a wonderful visit for any age group! Much less crowded (not crowds at all actually) than big galleries like MOMA, Metropolitan Museum, yet the same wonderful experience with smaller amount of objects. You will find there though a piece or two from any era. I come here as often as I can, provides programs for families with little kids... More

After a 14-year renovation & expansion at a cost of $135 Million, the museum reopened in 2012. It is the oldest university museum in the western hemisphere. The museum is a sensational place to visit and explore, whether in New Haven for only a day, or more often by locals who can go in on a lunch break. The galleries... More

This gallery truly is one of Connecticut's treasures and one of my favorites, particularly with the expansion a few years ago. I take my high school history classes here every year, and the responses from my students are amazing. I challenge you to walk through the gallery and not be drawn in by something! Start with a coffee and breakfast... More

An endless maze of treasure, smartly set in a multi-level, bifurcated space. I entered with no expectations and walked out in amazement. Monet, Renoir, Manet, Van Gogh, as well as an entire gallery of American Master works. Totally Free and totally worth the trip.

What a great experience. I recommend this to anyone with a couple hours of free time while in New Haven, CT. No admission charge and top shelf art. Well worth the time.
