Library staff was great!! Great resource for genealogy research. Public parking was a little issue but doable.

This museum used to be the go to place for history and genealogy of New Haven, but as the docent told us, the "genealogical" part is now in fine print. The hours posted on the website are not necessarily true. When we arrived at the scheduled time, not only was the museum not open, but the staff was waiting outside.... More

I am extremely sorry about the miscommunication in time regarding Sunday. We are usually open the first Sunday of each month from 1 - 4 pm, but since the first Sunday fell on Labor Day weekend, we moved our free day to the second Sunday and incorrectly updated the time on the website calendar. We appreciate your insight into content... More

Last time I was in New Haven, the museum was clkoised. Today my husband decided to do a day trip to New Haven. This small museum has chock full of history a exhibit on Armistad, history of New Haven, maritime history, an exhibit about Dean Keller an actual monuments man( see the movie) they also had an exhibit of local artists who... I was in New Haven for business and found the hour needed to visit here and see the Amistad Gallery. Let's be clear. it does not have a lot of original primary sources, and some of the few it has are in bad shape. But let's be equally clear; this one room gallery shows a moving, lucid, and concise picture... More

Yesterday my husband and I went to the New Haven Museum. We had not been there for many years and we were not dissapointed. We enjoyed the displays on the Shubert Theatre, Dean Keller-the Monuments Man and the presentation on the Amistad incident. These 3 exhibits I found exceptionally interesting. However the other exhibits about New Haven's history were also... More

I've driven past this museum for years and finally went in for a visit. Free parking in the rear of the museum and free admission thanks to a library pass started the trip out on a high note, and our experience exceeded expectations. The history of New Haven exhibit takes you from colonial days up to the mid 1900s with... More

The New Haven Museum provides an excellent overview of the city's history and recent past (who would have known how many great Broadway shows previewed here?). Can't say it alone is worth the trip, but a fine addition to a New Haven visit.

The museum is spacious unlike others where you may bump into people, the kids loved it and we did too. Its a almost an hour for us to get there but really worth it as a day trip with the family. The kids really liked the giant dinosaur, and a floor where they able to follow ants and see how... More

This museum is small in size, but huge in its exhibits. It gives anyone new to New Haven a very clear idea of why this city is so important, not only to New England, but to the United States. The permanent exhibits are arranged so that you can see them in one visit. The receptionist was friendly and helpful.
