Beautiful, Serene and Secluded Setting: Very Nice!!
May 2021
My husband and I visited Lake Waramaug State Park in New Preston, Connecticut on Friday, May 21,2021st on the way to Lovers Leap State Park in New Milford. This is a very beautiful lake and park in a very serene and secluded setting. I only wish it was bigger and that we planned for more time to visit and enjoy it.

The beach was small but very nice and clean. There was only one family with young children on the beach swimming at the time of our visit, but I could see it getting crowded quickly, especially on weekends during the summer because of how nice it is. We were able to walk along the shore a bit and view the scenery, with beautiful hills in the background and take some nice pictures. However, there was no actual defined trail that we could find, other than along Lake Waramaug Road, which has through traffic. We only stayed for a short while, due to lack of time, but I would definitely go back again. I understand why Chief Waramaug lived in this beautiful place during his time in the summer months. .

The picnic area is nice with even a picnic shelter. There are bathrooms available. The camping area has over 70 sites and would be a scenic place for camping. The parking lot appeared to have limited spots available, so come early and you may want to consider avoiding weekends during the summer. There were some bumps/potholes at the entrance/exit to the parking lot at the time of our visit. so you may want to proceed cautiously when parking and leaving the park.

However, the only real issue that we had was that there was no cell phone coverage at the time of our visit.

There is a parking fee on weekends during the summer for non-residents. There is also a camping fee.

Pets on a leash are permitted in picnic areas. Pets are not permitted in the campground or on the beach.

There are canoe and kayak rentals and a concession stand during the summer. But car-top boats are also permitted as well as lake-fishing.
We hope to be able to go back again to this park sometime soon!!

State Park in Disrepair
May 2021
Not one employee there on a beautiful Sunday yesterday. Port-a-potties way overdue for emptying. Lock missing on one of the two. No updated cleaning sign in. Even having an outside vendor maintain port-a- potties seems too much for the state of CT. Where is all that auto registration money going?

Great Camping

The sites are big, but are right next to each other. Just be aware of that. Lake is great for kayaks and canoes. Friendly staff.

Great Day Trip
Jul. 2019
My friend and I came to Lake Waramaug for the day with our 12 year old daughters. We parked in the State Park parking lot, set up a sun shelter at a picnic site and rented four single person kayaks ($15 /hr each). We planned to kayak the lake for an hour or two, but the girls were ready to head back when the hour was up. The rental kayaks were in good shape and the lake is beautiful, we had a great time paddling. When we returned the kayaks we went to the small sandy beach and swam for awhile. The beach area, while small, is very clean and we cooled off and enjoyed the water and sunshine. It was a weekday, so the beach area was not crowded and there were plenty of shady picnic spots available. After our swim we played cards, talked and enjoyed the view. The bathroom adjacent to the parking lot was one of the cleanest state park bathrooms I have ever seen. We had a great day in a beautiful location. I very much look forward to visiting the lake again in the future.

Pleasant day trip

Very convenient to US route 202, north of Danbury CT. Nice large campground on the west side, and of course, you have Hopkins Inn and the winery to visit.

Beautiful Lake, Pleasant Beach
Jul. 2019 • Couples
We visited Lake Waramaug State Park for the first time on July 4th - a beautiful hot, sunny day. We arrived at 1pm and got literally the last spot in the parking lot, so next time will get there earlier. The sandy beach is pleasant, and we were able to grab a shady spot on the adjoining grassy spot. There's a roped in area for swimming, which is pretty crowded. I suppose you can go beyond the ropes, but there's no lifeguard, as far as I could tell. The food concession is surprisingly good. My only - and pretty major - complaint is that some families blast their music, with no consideration or awareness of its impact on everyone around them. Really very rude and selfish. Only other thing - we both have Verizon wireless, and there is no coverage whatsoever, at least for Internet. Other than those negatives, a nice place to spend a summer day.

Girls Getaway Weekend
Jun. 2019 • Friends
Just got back from our 2nd camping trip to Lake Waramaug, and we have already settled on the date of our 3rd! We stay in the cabins, which are clean and spacious for 4 people. The campsites are clean and have wonderful views of the lake. You can buy ice and firewood when you check in. The snack bar was open this time - coffee, breakfast, hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream, etc. We rented kayaks and toured around the lake - we saw an eagle fly overhead. They keep the bathrooms as clean as they can, but gnats are attracted to the light, so you will find them in the sinks in the morning. Just close your eyes when you brush your teeth! The shower could use a new curtain, but the water temperature and pressure was good. We took a walk to the beach area - small but clean. The only time we left the campground was to check out the Hopkins Winery which is 5 minutes away, and to use our cell phones since there is no cell service at the campground. We can't wait to go back.

Nice campground and clean lake
Sep. 2018 • Family
We camped in this campground during the labor day weekend. The campground was almost full as it was the end of the camping season. The campground was empty on the day we left. The campsites were very spacious. There were poison ivy in the site we camped. One night we saw a skunk passing by our campground. No cellphone coverage in the campground.
The staff comes in around 8 to refill the bathroom supplies, until then it is better to take your own toilet rolls as there were no rolls in the morning. There is only one shower in the bathroom, so be prepared for the long wait taking turns!
There were lot of kids in the campground, so watch out while driving. The firewood was available in the house that is just out of the campground, it was fairly priced. The beach was very clean even though it was crowded!
When we enquired the office for nearby hiking trails and the Appalachian trail, the office staff was clueless. Would appreciate if the office staff educate themselves about the nearby trails.
Kent Falls state park and the Appalachian trail is about 7 miles.

Beautiful and Exclusive Lake
Aug. 2018 • Couples
We have been to several areas in Litchfield County and a few lakes but this is our first time at Lake Waramaug. It is a good sized lake surrounded by steep hills dropping right down to the water in most places. Direct water access from home lots is at a premium since most homes are on hillsides above the lake and often across the street from the water. Most homes around the lake are seven figure purchases and comparably pensive to rent but the lake itself is beautiful. It is large enough for power boats but relatively calm and quiet most of the time. There is a town beach on one end and a State Park on the other granting access to non residents. All in all a fun place for a hot summer day.
