The Avon is a non-profit, member-supported organization that has been described as an eclectic and whimsical picture house. The theatre is highlighted by an original exterior facade, framed by a restored vertical "AVON" marquee that lights up the Connecticut sky at night.

We are lucky to have the Avon host alternative, foreign and art films in "our little town". Lets face it, if you don't live in New York or another major city, you have to seek out the arts. Thanks to the Avon for bringing a touch of culture and class to our town.

Not your usual theater and not necessarily your usual movies. One can even "belong" to the Avon. There is the requisite popcorn and it even smells good.

Sweet theatre that offers a variety of good films. Always sure to find a night to frequent this place. It is never too crowded.

There are very few movie theaters around in our country that have that "nostalgic- when you were kids- feeling", and the Avon is a perfect example of that. The staff is fabulous, the popcorn is fresh and great, and the movies are always smart, intellectual, and thought provoking.

A beautifully restored old theater that focuses on films that are out of the ordinary. You may see a first run film with a historical theme here (Jackie), or a documentary or classic film. You may also find their Talk Back series interesting where after the movie there's a Q&A with members of the film industry, or just have fun... More

I cannot speak more highly of this not for profit organization. They have films , sometimes before the release date, special member free nights, discussions after the film with directors, actors, writers, filmmakers...these often with a wine and cheese reception. The choice of films is excellent and the theater has been preserved and is charming. There are documentaries you may... More

The Avon Theater is a Stamford institution. It is best known now for its artistic films; you won't find many mainstream flicks here. There is something very warm about the space, but maybe I'm just nostalgic. The main theater accommodates many movie goers. It has much of the original decor but the seats are new and comfy. The smaller theater... More

Even the popcorn is worth mentioning! Only problem is city parking, which can be an issue. If you want to park on the street at a meter spot, the time available will run out before you get out of the movie.

This re furbushed theatre is better than ever. The only theatre that consistently provides quality films, and had interesting events around them. Bravo to the Royce family again for giving so much to their communities. We have never seen a bad film here. Worth becoming a member and strolling in at any time. Fun restaurants across the street!

Love this theater, they offer such great films and it's a lovely building. The staff are very friendly and I'm always on the watch to see if there's any new releases that interest me.
