The Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry is one of America’s hidden treasures—a superb collection of over 2,500 puppets from all over the world; an archive of books, manuscripts, posters, drawings, audio-visual materials and photographs all covering the history of puppetry. It is also the new home of the Puppeteers of America’s Audio-Visual Collection: the largest collection of videotapes, films, and other media about puppetry in the United States. The Ballard Institute curates and produces exhibitions of puppetry, both at the Ballard Museum and for touring across the United States. The Institute also offers workshops, museum tours, artists’ forums, film showings, performances, and other events and programs that promote the art of puppetry as a twenty-first-century art form with deep historic and global roots.

We brought our grandchildren here and they liked looking at all the puppets. It is an interesting and fun place to go. It's not large, but interesting to look at all the different puppets on display.

A wonderful exhibit of puppets small and large which fascinate both toddlers and parents alike. Stories of shows in the past plus the history of the puppet program and information on upcoming productions in the small theater are available.

This is a small museum built around the collection of an ex-faculty member at UCONN (since deceased). He was instrumental in creating a puppetry program and major - something quite unusual. The museum itself has changing exhibits, is interesting to anyone curious about puppetry, and...More

This is a very small museum which is only interesting for specialists in puppetry, not so much for general public.

Rich with history, a perfectly delightful museum! UConn is steeped in puppetry, awarding the only Master's in the field.

Interesting collection, a very small "museum", not worth a trip on it's own, but if you are in Storrs - check it out.

The museum has moved into Storrs Downtown next to the UConn Coop Bookstore. Has some interesting, informative displays that are unique and make you appreciate the fine art of puppetry. Take a few minutes to stop in and enjoy the museum.
