The Hobbiton Movie Set tour is an essential stop on the itinerary for all visitors travelling through New Zealand, offering an interesting and entertaining experience incorporating the famous film set as seen in The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies.

Fall in love with the Alexander family sheep and beef farm, just as acclaimed director Sir Peter Jackson did, as you journey through the village, with the mighty Kaimai Ranges towering in the distance. Your guide will then escort you around the set, showing you the intricate detailing, pointing out the most famous locations and explaining how the movie magic was made. You will be taken around the 12 acre set; past Hobbit holes, the Mill and into the famous Green Dragon™ Inn, where you can indulge in our exclusive, specially brewed beverages to conclude your own Middle-earth™ adventure.

We visited the movie set as a bucket list item for my husband. If you can manage it, go in the morning. We did the 8:30 tour and there were about 12 people in our group. When full on, they take about 40 people per group. Smaller is nicer as you have a limited time to move through the set... More

Well what a great day we had at Hobbiton. The movie set was great with lots of great views. The tour was finished with a free drink - beer, cider or ginger beer. Highly recommended.

So it would not have been a wetter summer day, we were told the weather was very unusual but none the less this place is awesome! Fans of the films will not be dissapointed. The staff are knowledgeable, the place runs like clockwork and you get a good walk around the set. The only disappointment is the short amount of... More

We were worried about crowds at Hobbiton but the staff there have got their system down to a science! Tours are spaced out so that no one feels crowded or rushed. Guide was probably the most energetic person I have ever seen. Drinks at the Green Dragon were really good (cider was really refreshing on a hot day). Thoroughly enjoyed... More

If you're a movie or Tolkien fan or like me, just a kid at heart - don't miss this. Although a bit expensive I'm sure the cost of running a facility like this is enormous and spending 2.5 hours in such a fantasy land was well worth it. The commentary and guides are first rate and considering the numbers of... More

Whether your a lord of the rings fan or not this tour is amazing! It's so surreal to walk along the set where the Lord of the ring and hobbit was film. I was amazed by the detail of the whole set. From the hobbit holes to the green dragon, it made me feel like I was living the experience... More

Hobbiton set was amazing and the attention to detail of the designers was evident everywhere, the place looked fantastic. Unfortunately what lets this down is the management company just push too many visitors through so there are bottle necks on the tour with queues and waits for people to take photos. This completely ruins the tour as you can't get... More

Beautiful setting, and everything was well built - not cheap looking at all. There are a lot of visitors, but since the paths wind around you don't usually feel too crowded. It truly looks just like the scenes in the films! Make sure to have a drink at the Green Dragon!

We just went on the Lord of the Rings Hobbiton tour and left with a bad taste in our mouth for multiple reasons. Our first and foremost criticism of the tour was that J.R.R. Tolkien was not mentioned once in our entire tour, (not a single mention of the author of the series?). Instead, videos and tour guides focused exclusively... More

We did the Evening Banquet Tour. The bus ride from town is just a short 15 minute ride to the set which was great but they could've easily cut an hour off the length of this tour (4 hrs) to make it a better experience. You get dropped off at the ticket booth to exchange your tickets that you bought... More
