A visit to a great orchard
Sep. 2019
We visited the orchard during the afternoon. It was busy, lots of people in and about the orchard store. We went apple shopping and and I purchased 6 apple juice donuts, they were delicious that night with a tea.
The apples were amazing, tasty and crisp!

Beautiful location and one of oldest apple orchards in the state

The best apple cider donuts ever! So many varieties of apples to pick. The views are an added bonus! The apple cider is excellent. We go every fall for apples, it has become a tradition!

We have been going to Averill Farm for decades. It is a very, very special place run by an exceptional Family who have the deepest roots in the community. They are lovely, highly dedicated family who have lovingly cared for the land and their orchards for generations. The apples are the best in the universe and it is a delight to visit this orchard. It is situated up high and wide- a remarkable and choice setting. The cider is the absolute freshest and cannot be beat and the cider donuts are heavenly....they are donut nirvana.
The Averill Farm cider donuts are stellar....we have friends who never eat donuts, try one and within three minutes they have consumed two more. They are hot, delicious and perfect with the cider.
Cannot be beat.
To visit this rare and beautiful place, one must be respectful of the trees and land and the amazing family and team that run it.

A Gem in the Country!
Sep. 2017 • Friends
Just returned from a glorious fall day of apple and pear picking! We've never been to Averill Farm before and are thrilled that we found such a gem right here in Connecticut! We've been to many of the apple farms in the area and this one is the best kept secret! Rows and rows of trees and plenty of beautiful apples and pears to harvest. Although there were lots of families this day, never felt crowded in the fields. Just beautiful.

A bit tricky to find- but a lovely drive. You enter a long dirt roadway to an open grass field where you park. There was a barn and tent with the usual fall fare for sale. Gourds, pumpkins, mums, cut flowers, and of course apple cider. There were beautiful gathering baskets for sale and a shop that carried a fine assortment- including already picked apples & pears, apple cider, hard cider, wine, apple bread, maple syrup, gourmet popcorns, and more. They had several check-out stands available which helped with the lines.

There was also a pizza tent. Unfortunately, when we returned from the fields, the pizza tent had a sign up that read "no more orders for about an hour". There was a long line of people waiting on their orders so it was evident they couldn't keep up with it. A suggestion would be to perhaps add another food vendor? There were so many people there and there really isn't any place in the immediate to get food. Seems like that would be a gold-mine! There were a few picnic tables where groups were eating. Many people brought food with them and were out on the lawn having little picnics. Will remember for next time!

Suggestion - wear good walking shoes and long pants. There are so many varieties of apples to choose from- you'll be walking to see them all! There is a tall grass around the trees and lots of fallen fruit in various stages of decay. Be careful with your footing as the uneven ground could be tricky- but hey, it's a working farm! Also, although they had a few wagons to use to cart little ones and all of your fruit, but you can bring your own too. Best of all, the rows are clearly marked and it makes it so much easier to find your choices.

This was by far the best picking farm I have been to. As I mentioned, literally rows and rows of trees. Ample fruit on them and very easy picking. There were a ton of people when we went but it never felt crowded in the fields. Depending on which variety you want, there was such an abundance it didn't take long to fill our bags. Beautiful apples and pears!!

There were lots of people with dogs too - is that good? I mean I am talking lots and big ones at that. We witnessed one dog fight that actually frightened the kids nearby- but it was quickly handled. I love dogs, but not everyone picks up after them and you're picking fruit... just a note!

Again, WONDERFUL,WONDERFUL! Friendly staff and beautiful property! Thank you, Averill Farm!!

Apples great, poison ivy not so much

TERRIBLE poison ivy problem! All around trees on the ground. Got a bad case after apple picking even though we were careful!

We loved the apple cider doughnuts! So delicious! And they had these tiny, adorable gingerbread mug buddies to perch on your coffee cup. Tasty! It is a beautiful farm up on a hill.

Open in summer till Thanksgiving-family owned-great apples
Oct. 2016 • Friends
This farm has been owned by the same family since the 1700's and during summer months up through Thanksgiving, sell apples, home-made cider, and the best cider donuts anywhere. You can freeze them and eat them any time later on. They also have vegetables and lots of pumpkins for Halloween. A bit out of the way (look for the signs), but worth the trip. They even have buses which bring people from nearby schools, nursing homes, etc.

Our favorite place for apple picking
Oct. 2016 • Family
We've been visiting Averill Farm every fall since the kids were little; they're now 13 and 11 and still love the tradition. This year's apple crop wasn't great, but we were still able to pick a big bag. Their cider donuts and cider are delicious and recommended highly by the kids. It is not inexpensive here. Two dozen donuts, a bag of apples, and apple cider was almost $50. The kids also love the pizza from the pizza truck, although my husband and I thinks it's fair. If you're looking for a pretty, quintessential weekend ride through Litchfield County, you'll appreciate the beautiful drive here. Take Calhoun on the way in and Kielwasser on the way out to see the hills and pretty homes that dot the drive.

Lovely setting
Oct. 2016 • Family
We had a nice apple picking experience BUT I will never understand why places who want your business do not provide full service on the Monday of a 3 day weekend. Really? Your Pizza truck is open on the weekends but not on the Monday of a 3 day weekend. Get a grip. . . You don't need an MBA to understand the lost business opportunity.

We come here a lot. We get our apples and all of our fall treats here. It's a great family run business. Gorgeous scenery all around, it's a great way to spend the day with the family or with friends.
