This museum doesnt look like much from the outside, but once you walk inside You have a lot of choices of where to go first. Currently there are several different art exhibits in three different galleries. Also a gallery of local Waterbury history. Even the stairwells are covered with historical pieces from the Great Flood of 55. The third floor... More

The museum is affordable and has a lot of history of the city in many forms. It is great for all ages, very accessible and worth a visit.

Short, sweet and straight to the point. Not an all day affair for children. My son actually became upset cause their wasn't much of nothing for him to do. He hated the buttons. Not for children over 5, and that's being good. My son was 6 at the time of this visit.

So we went here instead and were very pleased.. they have an interesting collection of Buttons through the ages since buttons were made there in the past. What an unexpected pleasure! The Mattituck Museum is exemplary in many respects, and its emphasis on local art and history is admirable. We happened to visit and catch some very interesting exhibits, including TEA DAY 1931: The Art Community at Old Lyme, and WHAT A WOMAN!: Rosalind Russell, who was born in Waterbury. Who knew? The permanent collection is excellent... More

What a great setting for taking in much of the local history of the "Brass City" and some interesting and changing artwork to enjoy too. It is in the heart of Waterbury and could be enjoyed with a nice lunch or dinner at one of the area restaurants.

The Mattatuck Museum is a good place to learn about the art, history and culture of an old New England city. I found it very interesting and it exceeding my expectations. I would recommend visiting this museum, just don’t expect rooms full of mind-blowing masterworks. The building has three floors and the layout promotes an easy flow through the exhibit... More

My wife and I recently toured the museum after finding ourselves with some extra time in the heart of the City. The collection focuses on area history , a moderate collection of 19 the Century portraits and landscapes, and two special collections I assume were of limited time duration . The history exhibit was I think quite well done and... More
