I often cross this road since before there was a flyover. But since there is a flyover the view has become very beautiful. There were several stalls on the side of the road where we can stop and order food and drinks while enjoying the view of the Kelok Sembilan. From Bukittinggi is around 2 hours by car to this place.

Kelok Sembilan is on my bucket list when visiting Bukittingi. This road was built to ease the intercity transportation, as the old road is required longer time to reach the other city.
As a result, beside the ease of transport it is also become recreation spot for taking picture and enjoying local food.

"Kelok sembilan" is megastructure road - located in Payakumbuh area in west sumatra. Its name means 9 turn of the road, look like highway. It has a great landscape, great view of the bridge and fresh air.
Feel amazed with the structure of this bridg.
My family took a stop here on the highest bridge and really enjoy the view.

Its raining and misty when I was there. The view are fascinating, I could see the roads are surrounded by mist. Along the roads you can see people sells roasted corn, instant noodles, and hot drinks because even it is not raining the temperature are chills. The roasted corn are very tasty, they grilled it using a coconut and coal.

Kelok means turn sembilan is nine so it is the Nine Turns. It is situated in the narrow valley and before there was narrow and steepy road with nine 180 degree turn. Now a megastructure bridge was built. This fly over bridge is maybe the most wonderful one in Indonesia. There are many visitors want to see but there is no designated place to stop there.

Combination of amazing scenery, breathtaking landscape and man made engineering feat - stunning but sadly tainted by so much garbage and undisciplined behavior that can endanger the safety of both road users and visitors.
Crowded with street vendors lined up along the bridge/road and also cars parked along the road is a bad example of non-compliance with regulations. More over, garbage filled the ditch and was also scattered in the valley behind the row of street vendors.

This Kelok 9 was so famous after Kelok 44.
The different is we could stop by and take pictures of Kelok 9 while in Kelok 44 we could not stop as the roads are narrower and might disturb others if we stop to take pictures.
But both are having beautiful views and amazed how the government built this curve roads passing mountains and valleys.
The way to experience West Sumatera overland!
