We discovered, quite by accident, a wonderful house tour this past Saturday evening. There were very few guests there. A friend told us that she thought that the Nemours Mansion (Alfred I. duPont, Wilmington DE) was open for holiday tours in the evenings on Saturdays for the holiday season. We knew that the mansion is open during the daytime as... More

Very small groups are guided through this magnificent mansion. You will want to move in immediately! Very educational. An innovative home to explore.

Nemours is a beautiful home on a huge piece of property which has been lovingly cared for and provides a snapshot of the life of a wealthy family up until the early 1970's. The grounds are spectacular and peaceful and there are three floors of the home to visit, including the ultimate "man cave" on the lower level. The furnishings... More

We were in town to visit Winterthur and Longwood Gardens. We ended up having a free afternoon and headed to Nemours mansion on a whim. I ended up liking it better than Winterthur. Beautiful home, beautiful grounds and the chauffeurs garage is not to be missed. Definitely a must see! You won't regret it.

I really liked this Mansion. The staff is very knowledgeable and the state of the house is excellent. The best part is that all the furniture, decoration and works of art are all original. It is almost impossible to find a house like this in the US. My only complain is that some of the paintings are 'hidden'/far away, so... More

We're very pleased to learn you enjoyed your recent visit to Nemours Estates. As you noted, among the distinctive features of Nemours Mansion is that nearly all the furnishings are authentic and original. And, in respecting the wishes of both Alfred I. and Jessie Ball DuPont, we strive to interpret the Mansion less as a "house" than as "home" where... More

We have visited most of the du Pont estates in DE and PA -- Longwood, Winterthur, Hagley-- but had never heard of Nemours. We were in Wilmington for a quick getaway and decided to spend the day there on our way home. We were so glad we did. The house is thoroughly French, with gilded ceilings, crystal chandeliers, stained glass,... More

After 32 years in the area, I finally went to visit the Nemours Mansion. Only a few years ago they completed an extensive refurbishment. I am glad that I waited since it was extraordinary. Reminded us of our visit to the Loire Valley in France. The most extraordinary thing is that they allow personal photography which so many museums do... More

This place certainly lived up to expectations. Excellent knowledgeable and friendly staff and guides. Shuttle bus from entrance to the house, with optional extra stop at the garage with its 1920s cars. Many rooms to see in the house and the gardens are fantastic. We loved it!
