Description:

This 20 acre coastal preserve is a destination you don’t want to miss!...

This 20 acre coastal preserve is a destination you don’t want to miss! Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is surrounded by a rare remnant of tropical hardwood hammock, located on a barrier island in Boca Raton. Take a stroll through the butterfly garden, where many species of wild butterflies can be seen year-round. Walk the Ashley Trail and relax in the authentic Chiki overlooking the Intracoastal. A variety of native fish, sharks, and other marine animals reside in marine aquariums. Visit the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Facility to learn about our sea turtle patients. Indoor displays feature wildlife indigenous to South Florida and a series of stained glass windows depicting the coastal island as it may have appeared in the 1500s. Florida Atlantic University has an onsite marine biology laboratory with a gallery for viewing research projects conducted by university scientists. Purchase imaginative and environmentally friendly gifts from our nature-themed gift shop.

Note: Our boardwalk loop and tower are closed for renovation. Please visit our website for updates.

A wonderful nature center. Great for kids and adults. Staff are knowledgeable and will answer all questions. The FAU lab is fantastic. A must if you're in Boca!

Nice nature center, the boardwalk was closed when we were there, but they are doing a nice job helping turtles and have a wide variety of fish species

We usually travel with our kids, but this time we were on our own for the weekend... This was a great stop if you like nature, love learning, interested local ecosystems, ecology, turtles, etc. Was good for families with young kids, as well as adults such as was the situation for our visit. I have traveled many places, and this... More

The volunteers were super friendly, and taught us lots about the conservation efforts. Our entire family enjoyed learning about the Sea Turtles and loved the Butterfly Garden.

This was really aimed at kids, but it was an ok way to spend an hour. Several turtles being rehabbed, Some large tanks with reef fish. The best part for us was to go in and observe the marine biology turtle research station.

We have been here several times and the kids always learn something. We checked out the turtle rehab and watched the 1pm feedings and the volunteers are very knowledgeable. The place is also very informative for adults to learn about our impacts on turtle nesting. An all around education for the whole family!

I was in Boca for business and was short on time but looking for something fun and different to do. This definitely fit the bill. I walked around the entire thing and saw the open top tanks, the rescued sea turtles, the butterfly garden. There was a lovely little set of benches hidden away by the waters edge in the... More
