Description:

This 20 acre coastal preserve is a destination you don’t want to miss!...

This 20 acre coastal preserve is a destination you don’t want to miss! Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is surrounded by a rare remnant of tropical hardwood hammock, located on a barrier island in Boca Raton. Take a stroll through the butterfly garden, where many species of wild butterflies can be seen year-round. Walk the Ashley Trail and relax in the authentic Chiki overlooking the Intracoastal. A variety of native fish, sharks, and other marine animals reside in marine aquariums. Visit the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Facility to learn about our sea turtle patients. Indoor displays feature wildlife indigenous to South Florida and a series of stained glass windows depicting the coastal island as it may have appeared in the 1500s. Florida Atlantic University has an onsite marine biology laboratory with a gallery for viewing research projects conducted by university scientists. Purchase imaginative and environmentally friendly gifts from our nature-themed gift shop.

Note: Our boardwalk loop and tower are closed for renovation. Please visit our website for updates.

I was very disappointed in reading many of the positive reviews of Gumbo Limbo Nature Center because they make it sound like an entertainment center for young children; sort of like a more natural amusement park. While I can see while children would enjoy this, it actually is extremely appropriate for intelligent adults. A group of 3 approximately 60 year... More

Lovely little place to visit and learn about these dear turtles. Very educational and relaxing at the same time.

Gumbo Limbo had been recommended as a good place to take the children, and it's unusual to find somewhere free, and funded only on donations. Very informative although the boardwalk was closed as was the rehabilitation centre - so weren't able to see any turtles. However the children didn't seem too bothered by this & enjoyed the aquarium. Very helpful... More

Kids love this place. They love seeing the turtles & watching them feed the fishes. It's free but does take donations to help with the animals.

This was so highly rated by everyone we thought we would check it out and we were a bit disappointed. There's really not much to see and here's a rundown. Two small fish tanks in the entrance and a few snakes. Around back there were two big surface tanks with some rays and other fish. A little bit further around... More

This was a very cool place. They had 4 of the 7 sea turtle species there while we were there. They are only there for rehab so they will be re-released eventually. They operate on donations, and only ask 5 a person, so it's a really cheap way to see and learn about the animals while supporting a good cause.

We brought our grandchildren and they just loved it! Very interesting and fun place to visit . Some of the turtles are very old and some of them have been injured and they nurse them back to health. They have a cute little store .... Very nice selection of Books!

What a great find! We were looking for random things to take our 4 year old to do and my brother in law suggested we try Gumbo Limbo. We briefly looked at the website and decided to head over. Soon as we arrived our son couldn't wait to take pictures on the turtle sculptures. Once inside he got to see... More

Really enjoyed this place and will definitely be back. We were able to go to the sick bay and see various turtles in various stages of recovery. For someone who is t a local, you learn a ton about marine life and the various things that can affect their well-being. Would say it is definitely worth a visit.

Great way to spend a few hours viewing the Turtles and other Marine Life. The nature trails and boardwalk were closed when we visited but the Butterfly Garden and the Ashley Trail were open for a short hike.
