It was a hot afterrnoon and we decided to take our chairs and water to sit at Veteran'c Park near where they raise the bridge every half hour to lethe boats with high masts go through. I was pleaently cool sitting by the wayer in the shade of a large tree. We saw some beautiful boats go by and we enjoyed the day sending a few hoursof relaxing in Veteran's park.

There are two (2) hour parking available during 8am-8pm; newly renovated playground made of plastic; safe passage for pedestrians to cross under the bridge; beautiful water fountain which occasionally functions; sightseeing cruises available on intercostal. But bridge floods during high & king tides.

Veterans Park is on the Intercoastal. It is where you go to take the pleasant cruises from downtown Delray Beach. There is a playground for kids, with some fun climbing equipment, and it is fenced in case your bundle of joy is a runner.
There is a Gazebo where I see folks doing yoga and Tai Chi sometimes. The benches along the Intercoastal are a good place to sit and watch for Manatees in the winter. There are places to fish, too.
The activities offered in the fieldhouse are plentiful, from painting to Tai Chi, and in addition to shuffleboard, this park features "Boules" or lawn bowling. You can learn the game there, get on a team, but this is a serious group of bowlers and they can get pretty competitive.
There is a little shopping mall that has some gorgeous greenery and flowers there, with a restaurant or two tucked away among the retail stores. There is usually enough parking for the shoppers and park-goers.
All-in-all, it is a nice little park.

Veterans Park is next to a group of shops and restaurants. That traffic makes the park safer. Unfortunately, there is no security so large groups of teens and twenties hang out. The last time I went there 4 groups of teens totally 50 or 60 kids. It wasn't safe so we left. We tried again on the weekend - same thing. Veterans park has been taken over.

Veteran's park is a great place for any age person. Right on the water, benches, lots of grass, playground, fountain... just go.

In addition to being a place to reflect on all our veterans have sacrificed, this is a great park. The kids area has a large play structure. There is a lot of shade from all the beautiful trees. A small stage is available by permit. This is also the place from where the inter coastal tour boat rides dock.

Once upon a time, an enjoyable park to stroll along the Intracoastal, but that time has long passed. The playground area is aged and in disrepair. The City of Delray Beach is aware, but nothing budgeted moving forward. The most pressing concern though is the vagrancy along with high drug use, which has been documented through the DBPD as well as media. On a daily basis needles and syringes are found throughout the park. There have also been reports of growing lewd behavior recently.
The park is in need of severe care, but the city seems focused on redeveloping nearby commercial properties, and not park settings. The nearby city dock has also been closed for close to two years due to safety concerns and disrepair.

At Veterans Park there are Art classes and Zumba classes and Folk Dancing classes and more. There's a children's playground that was recently renovated too but this is the place where the only Lawn Bowling Club in Palm Beach County plays. It's the Delray Beach Lawn Bowling Club. Lawn Bowling is confused with bocci by passers bye. It's an old English game called Bowls in other parts of the world. The balls are called bowls. They're not round and they're weighted on one side so that as they slow down their course curves. The game then turns into something similar to curling. Lots of fun! On Wednesday and Friday at 9:00 AM you can play this game. During "The Season" we meet on Mondays too and the time goes to 9:30. I love it!
