We visited Jolee Island while staying at Sandestin Resort. We rode our bikes across a bridge to the island and encountered multiple trails. We took the one to the right. This island is mostly undeveloped and natural. As we came to the bay side of the island, there was a wooden porch swing there to take in the view. We saw many birds, including a kingfisher. As we continued along the trail, we came across a couple ditches that had wooden planks over them. Fortunately, we saw the numerous nail heads sticking up before hitting them. There is a play area for children as well as a grassy lawn in the center. This place is perfect for a game of hide and seek HOWEVER I would recommend staying on the trails (which wind around all over) and stay with an adult partner. This is Florida with fun wildlife such as gaters and snakes. (We did not see any though.)

I decided to do a little exploring while staying at the resort.

I was told that this was a popular kids camp at one time but there was a fire and that it has since been pretty much abandoned.

The playground, picnic tables, benches, grills, and trash cans are still there but quite worn and weathered. Lots of tall vegetation for critters to hide.

If you're looking for a clean, maintained place to snorkel, swim, and picnic with your family, this probably isn't it.

If you're looking to meander in solitude through some trails, this could be a good spot. Wear enclosed shoes and be mindful of snakes and gators.

There is parking but the area isn't paved and can be muddy. You're staying in a resort so walk over or bring the golf cart instead.

This is private and ONLY for owners or guests of the Sandestin Resort. Would have been good to know that prior.

In May 2004, my family and I stayed in Sandestin and inevitably my kids (6 and 3) wanted to know where the nearest playground was located. I asked at the front desk and was directed to Jolee Island. (If I have one complaint about the Sandestin resort, it's the lack of playgrounds for kids. We couldn't even locate a swing.) Jolee Island is really a charming setting. However, a much better job could have been done on the play structure. You cross a small bridge to the island and there are trails and a wooden structure for playing. The structure itself looks very old and it's supposed to resemble a pirate ship. My kids spent about 5 minutes on it before they wanted to explore the trails. I was disappointed because the island itself is quite large and it seems a very elaborate play area could have been built. Another recollection I have about Jolee Island is the biting insects. I was bitten several times by some sort of flying bug (not mosquitoes). Take bug spray!

After seeing its rank, we were excited to take our 2 young boys to enjoy some short hikes and a pirate ship playground. We were surprised when GPS led us to a private resort checkin. We were turned away and the boys were very disappointed. Do not repeat our mistake!

If you aren’t at the resort, there is no public street access. The security guard will make you turn around.

After finally locating the park, we were told it was only for guests and residents of the resort. So might be awesome, but we'll never know. For those looking to find the park, turn north on San Destin Blvd and head to the guards. Maybe you'll have better luck than us!

This little nature reserve was a nice free adventure for our family of 4, we have a 4 year old and a 16 year old. Sure it's not a huge place but it was beautiful and peaceful. There were bench swings throughout, a playground in the middle and a lookout tower on the small beach which our children could have cooled off in if wasn't such a chilly day. It is NOT only for sandestin guest! We also walked around the village at Sandestin which had an a awesome playground and a pier to walk out. It was a nice way to spend a couple hours and it didn't cost a dime😆

This "island" is within Sandestin Resort and situated along Choctawhatchee Bay in Walton County. Jollee encompasses a very small area so unless you are staying within the resort, it may make little sense to visit. It is peaceful and typically sparsely occupied by other visitors. Nice way to relax and bc you are very near all amenities you can retreat to civilization quickly!

We rented a kayak early morning at the baytowne marina and took it out in the bay and around the island. It was tricky at times (for my lack of experience with kayaking) but a good way to explore the water around the island great pics on the bridge in the evening!
