    Amazing
Pleaee do not miss this canyon. In my opinion one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen . The trip to the peak and than the foof trail have been an amazing experience. The top view is breathtaking. You can get there with a 2x4 vehicle if you drive really slow and carefully, am 4x4 would make the journey a bit more relaxed.

    Well worth visiting
Stunning natural scenery. No fences ruining views here and relatively quiet. We visited in May when tourists were few and far between anyway and only saw one other couple here. As an added bonus it is cooler so a nice respite from the heat at that of the year.

    Amazing drive through the canyon
Amazing drive through the canyon by 4x4, something I've never done before in any part of the world. I don't drive but found Ali, an excellent young English-speaking guide, online. He picked me up in Bahla (I got the bus to there from Muscat) and took me to Misfat al Abreyeen, Jebel Shams, Al Hamra and Wadi Ghul. Highly recommended. His number if you need a guide is +968 9015 0577

Stunning balcony walk , don't miss it. Walk all the way to the abandoned village to get the best experience. Not for those scared of heights

In my view, the best way to enjoy the Wadi Ghul canyon is to walk the W6 path, better known as the "balcony walk". As the name suggests, it runs through the canyon in the form of a long (5 kms.) almost flat balcony (there are differences in level, but given the length of the route, they are almost not perceived), suspended high up on the cliff of the narrow and very deep canyon - but still somewhat below its edge - until you reach the tiny village (as far as I understand abandoned for at least 30 years) of Sap Bani Khamis, at an altitude of 1700m (while the starting point is at 1900m).
The route is a dead end, you are forced to go back (unless you want to do real mountaineering climbs), so the 5 kms of route are actually 10. However, it's a route for everyone, provided they are in good physical condition, and absolutely no exposed sections (only a very short passage, almost at the beginning of the route, is, but is protected by a solid railing).
In this regard, I point out that a well-known guidebook, probably the most widespread, writes that here "a single false step, and you fall for 500mts...". Which made me very fearful, also because I suffer from fear of heights.
But having completed the journey, I can say that this expression is exaggerated. Of course you have to walk carefully, but downstream of the path there is not immediately a precipice: it is always preceded by a fairly gradual incline.
The innermost part of the route is also the most spectacular. The path runs for a long time within a long horizontal ledge, further giving the impression of the power of these geological forms; further still, it becomes a suspended passage, supported by a gigantic natural "span", in the form of an almost perfect arch.
The abyss of the canyon is so deep that its bottom is rarely seen; but you can still sense its presence, even when you can't see it.
On the opposite side of the canyon, the foothills of Jebel Shams, the highest mountain in Oman, a further 1000mts high and more, are continuously visible.
Overall, I judge this route to be the most beautiful environmental experience I have had in Oman (perhaps together with the walk-swim at the bottom of Wadi Shab).

It's called Al Nakher ,not Ghul....
The Oman’s Grand Canyon
Or Grand Canyon of Arabia
From 3,000 meters at the top of Oman’s tallest mountain, Jebel Shams, to the flat area just below the summit, you can see 1 kilometer straight down into Wadi Nakher, Oman’s Grand Canyon. From this area, called “the balcony,” the drop is so far and the canyon so vast it is hard to get a sense of scale. Rock formations and layers in the ancient rock give the canyon an almost other-worldly feel. It is the deepest canyon in the Middle East, and the second deepest in the world after Arizona’s Grand Canyon.

This kinda hard to find gem is a must to visit! I tried making pics of the signs near the exit “ramp”. Coming from Al Hamra. If you follow google maps you are close and should follow the sign to the village called Nakhur. Nowhere there are signs with the name wadi Ghul! You can also put in Valley necrosis in google maps, this is the start of the path ( either car or hike)

The path is a trail with white stones you can only take with a 4x4! It drives you next to the wadi ( or through sometimes) to the village.
We didn’t go all the way to the end since we didn’t know if this was the right spot. We only found out afterwards this was wadi ghul. You can find movies in you tube as well to help you find it.

The viewpoint is totally somewhere else, a Mike or two after you pass hevel shams resort.
