I wanted to drive up to the old fort in the park, but when we got to the ranger station to pay the park fee, the ranger advised us that since we had a dog we could not take the dog into the fort or onto the beach, we could walk the trails with him. The ranger told me we... More

Enjoyed the drive thru the park and the tour of the fort. Thanks to the recent hurricane, the pier was closed.

7 of us visited the fort. They have done a great job restoring and staging the place to make you see and feel what it might have been like to live in the fort

The fort is ideal for wandering the walls and escaping modernity. When a child my brother and his scout troop would camp at the park and climb the walls at night hoping to see a ghost. Never did but they swore they heard the roar of cannons.

We spent most of the day here. At the first overlook inside the park is the best view of the lighthouse you will get on the island. We also walked the Magnolia Trail and toured the fort. We walked the beach by the pier and found some nice shells. History and nature- a great combination.

This fort is a trip back in time. For only $2 per person you can take a self guided tour of this intact fort. There are employees dressed in time period clothing who go into character the minute you ask a question about the fort. It has a beautiful view of the ocean and it is worth the trip to... More
