Long story short, they turned off the lights 15 minutes before close and ordered “Get Out!” Then one of the security (5min before close) came and individually ordered us out. As I walked out right at their closing time, drink empty and bill paid, the security kept heckling me asking me what my issue was. I turned and expressed calmly/soberly how disappointingly abrasive their approach was coming from a server/bartender of 8 years and then tried to leave. In response they called their head of security to block my exit on the public sidewalk, lie to me about their property lines (forcing me to stand in a flowerbed flanked by 5 security), and then told me that “if I stepped out of the flower bed (he’ll) take off his shirt and beat my f*****g a** you (home state) M****F****!”

After walking away, I decided that I wanted a legal report/statement filed so that, at minimum, this event was documented. They had already filed to have me banned from the property. Tomorrow morning I’ll expect that I’ll be engaging legal counsel to file both civil and criminal suits against the head of security, business, and relevant personal.

I have witnesses and part of this on video. I am not a ‘Karen.’ In fact, my career has me focused on conflict resolution most often. But no one deserves to be treated this way. I felt the need to film my entire walk to my car until I was off the island, for my own safety, anytime a car to person passed me. I’m not an easily shaken man.

This encounter has me discouraging anyone from Amelia Island as all! In fact, as my first time in FL, I don’t plan to ever return.

We stopped in today to have a beer at “ the oldest bar in Florida.” Sadly, that didn’t happen. When we went in the bar, we noticed a table with 3 empty glasses on it. We asked the bartender if the table was available. He said “ they just left”. We sat down and waited for over 15 minutes. The bartender never acknowledged us again. Instead he was telling a man about the birth of his daughter and his wife’s episiotomy. He never spoke to us again. We would have gladly gone to the bar to order our drinks but didn’t want to drink at a dirty table. We left and went to Salt Life where our experience was wonderful. Don’t waste your time here.

A lot of interesting woodwork that comprises the bar at the oldest running saloon in Florida. Tin work in the ceiling accents the woodwork. Located one block up from visitors center in the historic district of Fernandina Beach makes it a great place to quench your thirst and absorb a little history. Try an age old favorite drink from the bar called “pirates punch” to take the edge off from your long day and kick off the evening right.

It was my first time to Amelia Island, and the Palace Saloon was the first place we went. We were greeted by the entire bar when we walked in,and you become friends with everyone there. Great music, great drinks, great atmosphere! Can’t wait to go back!

We couldn't pass up the opportunity to have a drink or two in the oldest bar in Florida. The bartender was friendly and chatty. we were going to just have beer, but they have a pirates punch that was really good. The bartender just told us it has two different types of rum, but the rest was a secret. Whatever the recipe was it was great. In the back they have a billiards room with darts. We played countless games of pool and drank our punch. It was a fun afternoon

Saw the sign Florida’s oldest bar -since 1903. Went in for some Pirate Punch. Really great!
We were there early in day. Bartender must have been busy, he didn’t want to talk about the bar, drinks, history, etc. ...place was empty, but we were ignored. A few others came in, same service, same being ignored.
Punch was served in plastic cup, but was really good.

The folks in this very old tavern were friendly and the Mayor is one of them. I had a great time and enjoyed excellent live music. The sign behind the bar said it was the oldest continuous bar. Stop in. You will have a great time.

Went in on a weekday around 3:00 PM, were going to get lunch. Only employee seemed to be a woman behind the bar. After waiting on a few people at the bar she looked at us, didn't say anything, and walked into a backroom. We waited a while, she never came back, then left!

We 4 women thought we needed to stop for a break and rest. The bartender guy was too busy to wait on you when you walked up to the bar; he was talking to the people at the end. He finally came over, I asked what was in the punch? “ Everything “. I said okay, I will try one. Premixed rum juice in a souvenir cup. I drank it because I paid for it!! My sister asked about the drink special that was on the chalkboard by the door??? “ What drink special?” There was booze in our drinks, non- punch drinks cheap! Service; rude! Tables not cleaned off or wiped off! Toilet / bathroom was filthy!! We will not be back!! Yuck!!

Bartender, who claimed to be a manager, was rude, and made it blatantly clear she didn’t want to be there, and seemed annoyed that she had customers.
The Palace Saloon, is a hot spot, considering its Floridas oldest bar, one would think to be a little happier about having guests, and not annoyed, angry, and/or rude about it.
But from other friends experiences, that’s just how it is.
