The Bonnet House Museum is a "must see place" in Fort Lauderdale. It's a calm, relaxing, beautiful place surrounded by gardens and water with an enchanting history and incredible works of art. However all this would be worthless to the visitor if it wasn't for the amazing people who work there, they are all most hospitable and welcoming. Starting with the driver who takes you from the parking lot to the museum, the workers you meet along the tour, the lady at the shop and most of all our wonderful guide SID, he was like a wikipedia of facts making the tour most interesting and fun. I have no doubt in recommending the tour to all Florida visitors and residents. I visited with my mom who was visiting from Spain and we enjoyed it very much. Arturo Fernandez and Isabel Berrendero

Very relaxed tour of this beautiful museum. A former summer residence of the Bartletts, it is evident that they lived their art. The home is filled with their own creations but art collected on travels. I enjoyed the brief DVD before walking through the museum. The volunteer docents were very friendly and knowledgeable. I definitely recommend. You could spend less than a couple of hours perusing the home but there are grounds to see too.

Unlike other historic mansions in the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area (like Vizcaya Museum and Gardens), this one is more eclectic and artsy owing to the personalities of its designers/inhabitants. This alone makes it a unique experience, and worth the time if you're into history. That said, there isn't as much here as other historic buildings and gardens. The boat house is something to see, not tour, and the grounds have been kept in a natural state and are therefore somewhat rough around the edges. After an hour, I had toured the bottom floor of Bonnet House (the top floor is off-limits) and took a lap around the property and its two bodies of water (I wanted to get some photos of the house from across one of them, but a huge tent had been set up for an event and blocked the view that's featured in this listing's main photo). Everything is interesting, but there isn't much to keep one's attention after the first glance.

The visit to Bonnet House with my daughter was the highlight of our visit to Fort Lauderdale. We loved hearing about the history of the house and about the Birch and Bartlett families. It has prompted me to do some further research on the area and the families myself. The volunteers in each room were full of fascinating information and we wish we could have stayed longer to chat with these lovely people. We don’t remember all of their names (they were all fantastic) but Owen and Ginger were stand outs for us. Thank you to everyone involved who allows this house to be enjoyed as it was intended by its owner.

Lovely home with an interesting history. We were there for a couple of hours. However when walking around the gardens (which weren’t so interesting) we got bitten badly by mosquitoes. So we’d say leave out the gardens and concentrate on the house. Plenty there to see.

A not to miss treasure of Fort Lauderdale ! All authentic “old Florida” in its natural beauty. The house and gardens give you the true idea of what Florida living was like. There is free parking and it is located one block from the Beach off Sunrise Boulevard. Sign up for a tour so you won’t miss a thing or a story. Our guide today was a volunteer by the name of Stu. He was terrific and he spoke loudly to make hearing in a small group no problem at all. Do yourself a favor and go to the Bonnett House. The best 2 hours you will spend at Fort Lauderdale Beach

All in all a nice place for a walk. There were two ticket options: 25 USD to see everything in the area and 10 USD for the garden only. We took the garden-only ticket and still felt like a bit too much money. However, the area was beautiful, well taken care of and especially Jim was a really cool guy who talked a lot about the area and the history.

It is wonderful that this piece of history and nature has been preserved surrounded by new construction. The staff and volunteers are knowledgeable and are eager to answer questions and help with the tour. It is a beautiful place and worth visiting if you have at least an hour to spare.

Visited this lovely house and garden while on the Watertaxi. The grounds are well maintained and the house is an interesting collection of old rooms showing the creativity of the owners. The volunteers are welcoming and knowledgeable. The tour of the grounds was exceptional with the passion of the driver for these gardens memorable. An interesting story of Fort Lauderdale history! Well done to everyone involved in this unique home!

We only toured the gardens and skipped the house because of time constraints. It was a lovely 35-minute or so walk. Not crowded at all so you could meander at your own pace. Interesting trees - and their massive trunks - and nice views of the house from different parts of the trail. These pics attached will speak more about the water. An enjoyable outing.
