The Bonnet House is a love story. Early Florida unfolds at this location of both Indian encampments and the few fresh water sources for 18th century sailing ships. This well chosen spot merged into the romantic winter artist compound of a Chicago artist and his wife's, over time. It was occupied by the last of the wife's until about 1997.... More

The Bonnet House is not a lavish mansion. It's a well-preserved house on a unique piece of land that (almost) stretches to the Atlantic Ocean. The owners, local gov't, and state have preserved 30+ acres with the house and several other buildings. The stories of the owners and the history of the home help us understand the early years of... What an interesting museum to visit while in Ft Lauderdale. The home sits as an oasis, surrounded by new development and high rises. The 35 acre property has been preserved as a glimpse of life in Florida at the beginning of the 20th century. The family has a very interesting heritage, very creative and artsy which is evident in the... More

The gardens are pretty enough, basically two large ponds filled with water lilies, but the real reason to visit is to see the inside of this house built around a large courtyard. Your guide will take you through the rooms on the first floor which are filled with the owner's original tropical paintings plus all kinds of unique and often... More

We had just finished a cruise and were looking for something to do for a few hours. This place is amazing! We really enjoyed the tour and the staff couldn't have been more friendly; one nice woman even chauffeured us in a golf cart because she could tell I was struggling to keep walking. Chicagoans, don't miss this slice of... More

We went to a wedding there last year, and the setting could not have been more pleasant! The food was excellent. The only possible drawback is what Mother Nature provides - it was in May, and it turned into a very hot day! Recommend during less warm months. It is a hidden gem in the Fort Lauderdale area and they... More

Very interesting history of the grounds and the house! How Birch and his daughter fell in love with this area, which was really pretty swampy at the time! Even though they had the means to make it whatever they wanted , they chose a simple house that became a fun house for them. It is still lovely-surrounded by original trees... More

A trip into the city's past. It cost me $10 to get onto the grounds and another $2 for a guided tour of the grounds in an electric golf-type cart. I was the only passenger in the cart, so I had the guide all to myself. She was a compendium of knowledge as she drove me around. We saw all... More

I was looking for a thing to do and came across this historical tour in this site. I really enjoyed the house tour, our guide is knowledgeable and explained details of the house. My favorite room is Bartlett's studio, spent time to walk around the house. So peaceful
