MOEC is an ideal place to learn more about the Treasure Coast's unique environment and its inhabitants, including the endangered Florida manatee. Inside, an educational film, various aquariums, a touch-tank and interactive displays are enhanced by wonderful volunteers. Eco boat tours are available along with a wildlife observation tower which provides visitors a bird's-eye-view of Indian River Lagoon. MOEC is situated at the mouth of Moore's Creek which is a popular spot to see visiting manatees during colder months. There are 400-500 manatees living in our area year-round but, considering their backyard is 156 miles long and connected to a multitude of creeks and canals, it is never guaranteed that they will be visiting the center at any given time. MOEC is supported by donations, memberships and the proceeds from its gift shop The Vanishing Mermaid.

We did not see any manatees on our visit but we still had fun. There is a nice movie and activities for kids inside. Make sure to stop next door and get your free orange!

Went this past weekend with my 12 year-old daughter, 20 year-old son, & his 19 year-old girlfriend. We weren't able to spot any manatees from the observation deck this time, but as a true born-&-raised Floridian, I know that can happen sometimes. Besides, what was inside the center was plenty of fun in itself! The people are extremely friendly &... More

I love supporting places like this. There is an admission fee of 1.00. Totally worth it! There's plenty to do. Great place to take little ones.

We wanted to see Manatees, they have several nice observation docks that overlook the inlets, and even if you don't see a manatee the views are pretty and serene.

This is one of our annual stops to see manatee in the area. The education center is worth the stop. The friendly and helpful staff will answer all your question whether on manatees or local attractions. This last trip we saw 5 manatees who made picture taking easy.

Best thing about this place is the volunteers. They love what they do and we were captivated by their enthusiasm. We learned a fair bit about Manatees and even saw a couple in the neighboring marina.

We saw a Manatee within our first 5 minutes there, it never surfaced like the picture and a camera picture did it no just. Only a $1 entrance fee and the volunteers are more than willing to share their information. Not a big place but educational.

Wonderful center, great exhibits with lots of hands on activities for little ones. Unfortunately, we did not see any manatees but learned lots about them. Cute gift shop too
