I've been to Okaloosa Island (Fort Walton Beach, FL) twice. The locals are friendly and the town is easy to navigate. The Island has beautiful white sand beaches, and it's a little less crowded and attracts families and couples seeking some more quiet beach time. Translation: fewer high school/college/party crowds. Pay close attention to the reviews on places to stay.... More

I would definitely start any vacation in the beautiful area as it is close to all attraction locally and Pensacola. The sand dunes are second to none in Florida and there are plenty of activités for children of all ages.

Got to love those beautiful sugar sand beaches and/or taking a long slow walk down the miles of beach with a warm mild breaker splashing at your feet. Also of note is a walk out on the Okaloosa fishing pier. There is a $mall fee to go out to the end but well worth the price.

Public access beach areas were very clean with limited parking. Multiple locations between the resorts and hotel areas. Convenient showers and bath facilities at beach entry locations.

Wanted to visit a Florida beach on Emerald Coast and Fort Walton beach was a nice surprise. The sand was incredible, so soft and so white, and the ocean perfect for swimming. Enjoyed watching dolphins and taking long walks along the shore. Would have stayed for two nights if I'd realized how relaxing it was going to be! Beach was... More
