About
VisitGainesville is the official tourism sales and marketing organization for Gainesville and Alachua County. VisitGainesville is ready to assist you in planning your vacation or your meeting. From your initial inquiry to dining and entertainment recommendations to the ride home, our experienced and professional staff is your guide to the community. Gainesville is the proud home of the University of Florida. And for some people, that's the beginning and end of the story. But a few minutes spent on this site, followed hopefully by a visit sometime in the near future, and the story changes in a big way. Gainesville isn't just a great college town. It's a great town. Period. It's where nature and culture meet. Where trees draped in Spanish moss line quaint Old South inspired streets. Where a cozy quintessential downtown exudes hospitality, comfort, and at times, a certain refined ease in its shops and restaurants. Where state parks are a virtual playground of world-class natural attractions, sinkholes, waterways and waterfalls, shady pine forests, flora and fauna, and amazing NATURAL North Florida sunsets. And where the surrounding towns like High Springs, Alachua, Cross Creek and Micanopy dial-up the charm even further each in their own individual way. Looking for iconic locations in Gainesville to take photos? We've got you covered. So, welcome to Gainesville. It's a little of what you might expect, and a lot of what you wouldn't. Whether you're staying for a day, week, weekend or longer, we look forward to helping you create your own unforgettable story. One we hope you'll tell again and again.

Fun trip
Feb. 2019 • Friends
We live gainsville. Every time we visit we discover something new. This trip we found hear and again records and arrows sim records. Great vinyl record stores. We also ate at the swamp which is a typical college bar and we ate at Embers which is an outstanding steak house. I recommend staying at the Drury inn which is just off of interstate 75. Lots to do and having the college kids around give the city a nice vibe.

Great website, helpful people!
Dec. 2018
Visit Gainesville is a well-funded, thorough website with a lot of resources for travelers and residents alike. The store front is not very noteworthy or as helpful as that website.

A very pretty downtown

I love Gainesville! Nice pretty buildings with a lot of friendly people. The farmers market is one of the best that I have ever been to. This downtown has transitioned to something beautiful over the years. A great place to stroll and take photos.

Cool, Laid-back Charm
Nov. 2017 • Family
I was a student at UF many moons ago and didn't think much of Gainesville at the time. Now, with my son attending school here, I've found I love the laid-back vibe of this cool little town. The downtown area has great restaurants and fun places to hang out (Maude's is a favorite), while the outskirts of town offers parks, and hiking trails and a fantastic little pizza place called Satchels. I also love that they hold festivals that we sometimes get to check out while visiting.

Very interesting time
Jan. 2017 • Couples
Had the pleasure of visiting Gainesville this weekend to meet up with my fantastic girlfriend. We ended up going downtown both nights, however for very different reasons..... the first night we were dragged to some terrible night club called saga. What a cesspool of a place, honestly so tragic. The second night was MUCH better, we went to this restaurant called the Original American Kitchen (oak) and it was amazing. The food was delicious, however I must say the company was 100x better <3. I got the steak and she got the grilled portobello caps. 10/10 would totally recommend.

Parents of a Gator freshman, we really like the downtown
Aug. 2016 • Family
We have been going up every few weeks for the entire summer and we have come to really enjoy the downtown area. Parking can be a bit tough at times but otherwise the area is fun, clean, relatively safe, has great bars and restaurants and lots of activities within a very short distance.
