About
In 2012 the iconic boat the African Queen was restored for her 100 year centennial celebration. In May 2012 she once again began plying the waters of Key Largo and currently offers canal and dinner cruises. We go out daily at 10am, 12am, 2pm, 4pm and 6pm. On Fridays and Saturdays at 6pm we offer a dinner cruise to the Pilot House Marina where passengers disembark and enjoy dinner in the restaurant before boarding the vessel once again to return to the Marina Del Mar. Dinner and lunch cruises are also available on request for groups of at least 4 people.

- JD SPunta Gorda, Florida3 contributionsThe African Queen rocksI never thought I'd get a chance to ride in the boat that was used in making the movie. It was very relaxing, and we got to see many beautiful homes in the canals. We also looked at pictures of the movie being made, and I can't say enough about Captain Dave. He was a wealth of information on the boat and so very nice. There were four of us, one younger person who had never seen the movie. He now intends to watch it. All of us highly recommend this adventure and learning experience.Visited October 2023Written October 23, 2023
- BWD214Puerto Penasco, Mexico18 contributionsLoved it!A great tour and Captain Dave is wealth of information about the history of the boat. Just to see that old steam engine and boiler and hear all about that was amazing. Highly recommend the tour especially if you know the movie or just love old boats. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who went home and watched the African Queen movie again.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 24, 2023
- Ralph B1 contributionA rare piece of cinema history you can ride in.The real African Queen. My wife and I are fans of C. S. Forrester’s book, and of course, the Bogart/Hepner movie of 1951, so the chance to actually ride in the boat from the movie was required in our trip to the keys. The captain was friendly and full of trivia about the boat, the movie and even the canals we cruised through. He took time to position the boat offshore for the best photos and took them for the groups on the Queen. We enjoyed the ride and recommend the tour to old movie buffs everywhere.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 26, 2023
- marion3034Malaga, Spain77 contributionsA must for movie fansWe booked a trip, then watched the movie for a recap! We spent about an hour and a half cruising and learning about the history of the boat from Captain Dave. There were lots of photo opportunities too. We initially booked an afternoon ride, but rain stopped play. The captain that day was kind enough to let us sit on the boat, under cover, and helped rearrange our trip for the next morning. We really enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the movie.Visited November 2023Written November 28, 2023
- Vacation404994340561 contributionNice Tour but Should Have NarrationWe loved seeing up close and riding in the original “African Queen” boat but this tour would be 100% better if it was narrated by the captain. Nothing against our boat captain he was pleasant enough. We happened to be sitting next to him so we engaged in conversation and he shared with us stories and some interesting things about the sights. But, if we had been sitting in the front as the others on the tour we would not have heard anything. It’s a lovely tour and a piece of movie history but it should have some narration.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten December 22, 2023
- Mandy TWigan, United Kingdom13 contributionsAmazing Boat Tour - recommendedAbsolutely fantastic little boat tour - well worth the money. Eddie our guide was very entertaining and gave us lots of African Queen trivia Plenty of photo opportunities too ! He also involved us in movie trivia quizzes too which was great Would 100% recommend this trip 😁Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten December 31, 2023
- havertya1 contributionGreat little private cruise.A great little cruise for those who loved the movie. Captain Dave was very skilled and very informative. He knew the movie and the way the ship came to be in Key Largo. He was also very informative about Key Largo and the Keys in general.Visited December 2023Written January 2, 2024
- jrzj42Ellicott City, Maryland1,736 contributionsMust do while in Key LargoThis is the original 'African Queen' from the Bogart movie. A very pleasant, scenic cruise through the canals, with a bit of time in the Atlantic ocean (well within a half-mile of the inlet). Captain Dave provided a good overview of the boat, its history, highlights of the canals, etc. It didn't feel like we spent a little more than 1.5 hours on the boat. Well worth the adventure, even if you have limited time in Key Largo.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 7, 2024
- Carol D1 contributionTravel Back In TimeOriginal boat, Captain Lance has many stories and photos, opportunity to steer, posed as Hepburn did and poured out the bottle of rum (water) over the side of the boat. About 1 and 1/2 hr ride in the canal and out into the Straits of Florida on the Atlantic Ocean. That’s when you realize you’re on a small boat!Visited January 2024Written January 14, 2024

Can't remember our tour guide's name but we went on Sat 4/14 at 4 pm and he explained the history of the African Queen boat, how it found its way to Florida, some of the scenes of the movie "African Queen", and pleasantly and humorously conversed with all those on board incl my wife and I and three gentlemen. Even if you never seen the movie or know nothing about it, the African Queen tour is worthwhile just for the scenery and small group environment perspective (relaxing, not noisy). We saw the movie after we returned from our vacation, and realized the African Queen boat plays a prominent role in the movie - a great romantic/drama/comedy. The tour guide was friendly which in our view made all the difference in the world. One recommendation we have is to wear sun-protective clothing and/or ample amounts of sunscreen because the African Queen has a canopy that covers only half the boat/passengers and out on the ocean the sun is coming in from all angles.

It felt like we had a custom, luxury experience when we took this tour. The guide (sorry I forget your name) could not have been better, took his time explaining the new and old parts of the boat, and described its relation to the movie throughout the tour. He even let me take pics holding the bottles over the side just like in the movie!
This is, without any doubt, a MUST for any fan of the movie, and lastly, the price is also reasonable. Even if you're not a strong fan of the movie or haven't even seen it, it's still a fun ride on an old but functional boat with very unique features with a great guide.

We took a morning cruise and listened to the story of where she was built and why. I saw the movie when it came out at the age of 9. As a child, I thought we were going to see something about Africa. Seeing it later in life, I got more out of the story, but to find out that the script was written on location on a daily basis was priceless.
If you want to go, don’t go to see the canals and boats, go to learn and discover a movie that grossed 10 Million the first year on a budget of 1 million. Learning why it was filmed in the Congo is entertaining, so go with enthusiasm and to actually be on the boat is better than taking its picture.
The Captain did a great job, even let anyone who wanted to steer could do it.

The African Queen owner is the best. We arrived at our cruise time, but no one was around. I called the number on the reservation and the owner said her captain was sick and called a replacement but was having trouble getting there. She offered to refund our money and did so immediately. Things happen that can't always be controlled, but the owner made sure she made it right with us. Thank you so much. Don't hesitate to book a cruise.

My wife and I booked a tour on the African Queen. She is a huge movie buff and we are both fans of Bogart and Hepburn. Sitting at the dock, the boat hardly looks seaworthy. It looks like it did in the movie. A run down work boat in need of repairs and paint. It was perfect. You could picture the two actors arguing as the made there way through the Congo. Our guide Jeff,O was a wealth of information. He had much knowledge of the history of the boat and pictures to enhance the memories.
We did go out on the water under power of an outboard motor. The boiler on the steam engine is cracked rendering it inoperable. A disappointment to me but the engine turned over driven by the propeller. Once out of the harbor we toured around a little, took some pictures, saw a dolphin, and headed back. It was an enjoyable day. I would certainly recommend the trip for anyone who is a fan of the actors and the movie.

We had a wonderful time. Our Captain (not Bogy ... LOL) did a great job talking about the history of this little lady and some thoughts on her future. It is important to keep this treasure alive and I wish them all the best to completing their plans and meeting their goals. Thanks for a wonderful adventure!

I'm sure our guide did the best he could do considering he was not the "regular" guide (due to the death of his wife) He was able to tell us interesting stories about some of the house in the canal and was very nice. I think most of us thought the boat would run as it did in the movie, but we were mistaken. Great movie memories and a gorgeous day !

We had seen the movie African Queen and wanted to see this iconic vessel associated with it. To our delight it is actually still seaworthy, though not powered by the steam engine. The excursion is a must for movie buffs and Katherine Hepburn / Humphrey Bogart fans. You will see historic photographs and hear the 100 + year history including how it came to fly the Union Jack. The guide is super and we think the ride through the canals and out into the Atlantic is well worth your time.
The 1912 built vessel itself is registered as a National Historic site.

Note to selves: Watch the movie! This is an authentic experience, conducted by an interesting and congenial captain. He shared good anecdotes about the cast and the making of the movie, engaged us in trivia, and kept us entertained! Nice canal cruise, then out to sea! Loved it! It’s a smooth ride, on an open craft, seated on wooden benches. It’s docked at the Holiday Inn, so easy to park and board. We booked online 4-5:30 ride. Very informal, sun screen, hat, and closed toe shoes all good.

This is the actual boat used in the movie with Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn. It was restored by an aficionado with a passion for giving the true experience. The captain was extremely knowledgeable about the boat's history and facts about the movie. He was also very accommodating in support of the passengers' comfort.

We are hoping to book a trip on the African Queen soon. When I looked at the website- it came back as 'not secure' in the web browser. Has anyone had any issues? Or is it safe to book online?
