- Minder53Washington DC, District of Columbia20 contributionsMake time for this park! What a hidden gem! This nice park has a great beach where you can snorkel in pretty calm waters. While the water is not crystal clear, it is clear enough to take a snorkel dip. It cost $8 to get in. There was a lot of parking. There is also a restaurant onsite. Picnic tables were in abundance. Bathrooms are good. It seemed like people started leaving about 2:00 p.m. Dogs aren't allowed on the beach. Overall, what a hidden great excursion.Visited December 2022Written December 7, 2022
- BostonNixCape Cod, Massachusetts359 contributionsYes, there are beaches in Key West! And this is one of them! But bring your water shoes because it is a rocky beach. This is a very pleasant place to take a swim or do some snorkeling. The day I was there the water was too cloudy for snorkeling - possibly due to recent hurricanes. But there are some rocks just off shore that attract fish and would make for some pleasant exploring on a calm day. Lots of picnic tables and shade. Also a good snack bar and a place to rent snorkeling equipment. You can also rent a lounge and umbrella. And, of course, alcoholic beverages are available at the snack bar - this being Key West! Easy bike ride from downtown. Plus there are lockers you can rent so you don’t have to worry about your valuables while you are in the water.Visited November 2022Written December 9, 2022
- Susan HCarrollton, Texas8 contributionsA nice day and historical tourWe rented bikes and rode out to Fort Zachary Taylor historic state park. The fort itself is well preserved and informative. They offer tours, but we just did the self guided. Afterwards, we rode our bikes over to the beach, rented a couple chairs and enjoyed a few hours. They have a small shop where you can buy food / beer as well as outdoor showers and bathrooms. The beach area is very rocky with coral so you might want to bring water shoesVisited December 2022Written December 13, 2022
- 307levenStroudsburg, Pennsylvania284 contributionsExcellent tour of historic fortWe visited the 2nd week of December and the cost was only $5 for both of us. But, we walked there so I'm not sure if they charge extra for parking. While there, we obtained a brochure that informed the fort was the longest serving US Coastal fort serving from 1861 to 1947 and has the largest amount of Civil War armaments in the world. The fort contains almost a dozen signs or interpretive panels describing the fort's history and experiences. There are some steep steps as you walk up or down from the fort's walls, so be careful if there are young children with you. There are also places of uneven walkways so be careful and watch your footing. We explored the forts exhibits and admired the scenic view of the beach and ocean in front. Also, there were plenty of cannons, cannonballs/artillery rounds and many other artifacts depicting fort life to view. Overall, we spent just over an hour there as it was a smaller fort and there was a section that was cordoned off due to repairs.Visited December 2022Written December 20, 2022
- Mark P19 contributionsGood history; poorly maintainedIt was interesting (held onto the rails with both hands) to climb to the top of the old fort. Lots of artillery and ordnance from several eras which was neat to see and read about. However, the Fort is obviously poorly maintained. We didn't see one park ranger or tour guide during our entire rainy visit.Visited December 2022Written December 26, 2022
- James SMinneapolis, Minnesota5 contributionsThis is the spot!We went to explore the fort and found it interesting. Then we stumbled on it's real gift- a secluded beach, the only secluded beach, from which to watch the sunset. As a bonus, there is a snack bar close by to get refreshments too. This is a must- but plan around a sunset!Visited January 2023Written January 19, 2023
- Stacie H60 contributionsA great little place to hang out $5/two of usA great place to just hang out, watch people or watch boats. Need to bring your own chairs or rent theirs. pack in/out any trash, though they do have a concession stand and bathrooms. Can swim here. Should have brought my snorkeling gear.Visited January 2023Written January 19, 2023
- kelibundi172 contributionsGreat beach in Key WestThis was my first trip to this beach- I’ve visited others in the Keys. This by far was my favorite. If I didn’t want to go in the sand and see the beach, that was an option. If I was interested in fishing- that was an option. If I was just interested in seeing the fort, that was an option. Bathrooms were also clean.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten January 20, 2023

- Bob MKokomo, Indiana62 contributionsGreat sunset viewing spotBeautiful scenery. Can be very windy with crashing waves so be very careful. Better place to watch the sunset than Mallary Square in my opinion. Be sure and park your bike in one the racks, if you walk it onto the beach area you will be bitched at by someone. Take a tour of the old fort and see some historyVisited January 2023Written January 25, 2023

Strong ocean currents are bad, cloudy murky water, few fish to see, rocky beach. What a waste of time. At least I paid to get in to have all this unfun. That’s fun with no f.

This is the best beach in key west. Although, don't expect beautiful sand. This beach is made up primarily of small broken coral, shells etc and not super fine sand. It is a pleasant beach however and big, with rock pools containing tropical fish if you like 'snorkeling '. If you need a beach day, this is your best option

An amazing beach (a little Rocky so bring water shoes ) but so enjoyed snorkeling here without choppy ocean waves and hanging out on the beach. Rented beach chairs/umbrella/snorkel gear. Saw many fish (barracuda, and various small and large colorful varieties. Very much enjoyed this sprawling beach with a cute cantina and many trees. Beautiful views ♥️.

Super clean beach, great swimming area. Can rent snorkel gear here. Snack bar. Great views. Interesting how you can swim in the Atlantic and gulf of Mexico at same time. $7.00 entry fee which is good all day long so you can leave go get lunch downtown or whatever and come back later in the day.
Be sure to check out the fort as well. really cool trivia about Key West in general. Catch the tour at 11. The park ranger historian is really passionate about the place.

Visited for the day to enjoy the beach. We were pleasantly surprised with all the amenities which included rental beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkel gear and concession area. The park is on the bus route as well. There is a small entry fee even for "walkers" but well worth it. There is a historical fort which we did not visit as well. There are several walking paths and nice views of the coastline. The beach is rocky so it is worth buying beach shoes to get through the rocky coastline. We had bought shoes the day before at a CVS but they have a little shop that sells hats, sunscreen, beach shoes etc. It is worth a day trip if you are looking for a nice beach day with amenities.

This by far was the best thing the family did while in Key West . The fort was very interesting and full of history . The admission to the park ( about $9 for 7 people) includes the beautiful beach . The tour was full of interesting facts . Beautiful views from on top of the fort . We could even see special forces soldiers training in the near by navy base .

Beautiful Beach!! HORRIBLE STAFF!
Amazing snorkeling and beautiful beach, but the rangers were some of the worst people I’ve ever encountered. Screaming at us to leave while we were watching the sunset because they wanted to close the park. Put a closing time on your sign if you want people out by a certain time and don’t threaten them to leave

This is an amazing park! Perfect for families with teens or children interested in snorkeling. You can swim and snorkel right from the beach. Bring masks and goggles for your kids. There is a ton to see just under the waters surface even close to shore.
I saw tarpon and a large variety of fish. The park entrance fee is the best bargain in the keys.
The snorkeling isn’t as good as it is out on the reefs, but you can beat the price, convenience and easiness.
Snorkel around the rock formations for best views of fish. It’s a great place and the sunsets from the beach are incredible!

The park is located pretty far off of the main roads. I would pay to park if I went back.

Are there any drinking fountains or water fill stations here?
Dushyant P
Dallas, TX23 contributions
Not on-site but yes you can buy water from the beach restaurant. However, I will suggest that you take some cold water bottles with you. There are water showers to wash the sand off your body or take a shower after a swim.
The sunset is very beautiful to see from the beach and the beach is very nice.

Good evening.
Yes I believe they have snorkel equipment for rent. A nice concession stand and bathrooms. Snorkeling is awesome there usually. It is a gorgeous setting worth the trip. Hope this helps.
