Other reviews say to bike here, because the walk from the gate is longer than you think! The historic fort was very interesting. The beach was lovely and family friendly. The water was remarkably clear. Key West experts on this forum have said that Key West is not known for its beaches. I now understand that most of their beaches... More

Fort Taylor is an excellent visit if you take the free noon tour by the park ranger (included with the admission). They add a lot of color, details and anecdotes to life in the fort. If you don't take the tour, the self tour signs are nowhere near as interesting.

Very peaceful though small beach. We can relax for a while. Entry fee makes only selective crowd to come in. BEST place for sunset.

We picked up some sandwiches at a café and drove our car to the park. Many people just walked in to save some money on the park's entry fee. There are lots of picnic tables right on the beach and the views are spectacular! We really enjoyed it. There was a beautiful woodpecker on the tree behind us. A few... More

We had a great time looking through all of the hidden passeges and rooms. Lots of great military history, too. Demonstrated evolution of cannonry and projectiles, as well as how hard people used to work.

We visited the Fort while on a walk through the national Park area. It was interesting, but underwhelming. If you're a history buff, it's worth a visit. Other than that. not a whole lot to see.

We watched the power boats practice for the upcoming races from the park. There was a very nice shaded area with benches and picnic tables. Food was available at a reasonable price at a snack stand. Swimming was available at at very nice beach and restrooms were nearby and very clean.

I toured Ft. Zachary Taylor the day before I spent $175 to visit Ft. Jefferson in Dry Tortugas National Park. While Ft. Jefferson was more impressive, I enjoyed walking around Ft. Zachary Taylor (which cost me under $3 plus $10 bike rental) - and little kids will like it just the same. Highlights included the cannons and lots of iguanas!... More

We spent a quiet day at Fort Zachary Taylor exploring the fort while our 18/19 year old lounged at the beach. A very enjoyable day. Gorgeous beach and scenery.

And I love parks in general. We spent around three hours here and would have spent more had we more time. The first view of the park is beautiful. You can see the sea peeking in through the tall trees. The most striking thing was the quiet in the park. Even though there were many people, everyone seemed to be... More
