Like other reviews said, it is unbelievably small. It was difficult to find also because Apple Maps took us to Simonton street. Had to ask a local to tell us where it was. It was clean the day we visited, though and very pretty. Just shocked by how small it is.

Honestly I wasn’t sure whether to come here or not because of the 50-50 reviews but honestly it’s a good amount of room. The beach is pretty clean and it’s right next to a bar with really really nice people. I would definitely recommend coming here my dogs love it.!

Not so sure what the beach is like at other times of the year, but it was disgusting. I was looking forward to swimming with my dog but there was no way I was going to wade thru 2 feet of smelly sea weed to get to the water. The smell was horrible. I let my dog go into cool off and we left. There was also dog poop on top of the sand. I did not find anywhere to rinse your dog off either. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

This was our dog's first trip to the ocean (she's about 18 months old) and she's not used to the waves yet. We had traveled through Florida and she went on a couple pet-friendly beaches on the way and got her toes wet, and enjoyed walking on the beach. We were at Key West for three days, and took a cab to get to a restaurant near here which was on the beach, then we walked over past Casa Marina and finally found this place. It's really not easy to get to, you have to walk through city streets and finally you're there. There's a nice restaurant next to it with a deck, but the beach itself is SO small, and tons of weeds (at least in March). The picture you see is the entire beach....and you could only stand there, it's kinda messy and you wouldn't want to sit. But if your dog MUST get in the water, he/she can get in and enjoy the water. Key West is not really a beach vacation anyway, and there are so many other pet-friendly places (even restaurants in town). Just don't go a long way there and expect anything other than a tiny spot.

This is a great small little beach area next to Louie's Backyard rest. Your dogs are allowed to run up the beach but beware there are very slippery rocks to the left and a dog can really hurt themselves on this. This is not a fenced in area so your dog should be on good voice command. Dogs are allowed up on the back deck to Louie's for water and it's a great place to get drinks & watch the dog's play. But they are not allowed past a certain point, like dinner time I think. Also make sure your dog doesn't run up to the hotels near by, they have to stay on the beach. It's a great place and enjoy your self @ the beach. That's our Great Dane enjoying himself in the photos. :)

Yes it’s small and yes it can smell from the sea grass but it’s perfect if your puppy enjoys the ocean and your in key west. There are hardly any spots or info for our fur friends here so be kind when you come to enjoy the view and water. P.s. (Watch for rocks) Have a cocktail after at Louie’s, they also are kind and have an amazing view! 😉😎

So we took our two dogs to Key West and one if the stops we wanted to make was dog beach.
What a terrible disappointment. The beach was tiny but much worse was disgusting. It was completely covered in seaweed and bug piles of it at the edge. But even if we had wanted to wade through that the first 10-15 ft of water were completely covered in some sort of sea grass.
So basically there was no way for the dogs to get anywhere near the water and I certainly did not want them in that disgusting stuff.

So for now I would suggest skipping dog beach

This is a beach in the sense that it has a bit of sand and is on the ocean. What it really is is an alley between two buildings that runs into the ocean. I am so glad that my husband and I decided to check this out prior to bringing our small dog. When we arrived I was shocked that the community allowed for this place to be touted as a dog beach. Only about 20 feet across there are several large rocks that the waves crash up against. I thought it looked completely dangerous and unsanitary not fit for human or canines alike. Pitiful. For those of you that find yourselves looking for a decent place to go swimming with your canine family members I cannot recommend Sombrero beach on Marathon enough. We spent many good days in Marathon with our furry family member due to the complete lack of Key West to provide an appropriate beach for our dog.

We took our 6 month old puppy with us on vacation to Key West. This dog beach was great because it was a way for us to go to the beach, and for Bayleigh to have fun as well. There are rocks to the left that are slippery, but we just made sure she stayed away from them. There is no fence, but the water is far enough down from the street that the dogs can hardly see the road, and ours was not even interested in leaving the water. She was not a fan of swimming until we came here, she loved playing in the waves, and of course was in heaven when other dogs came to play. There is no real sign that says "dog beach" so just make sure you know EXACTLY where you are going. Also, if you are asking locals where it is, let them know that you want to go to the actual beach and not the "dog beach dog park." There is a dog park that has no beach, but it is across from Higgs Beach so it is called dog beach dog park. Haven't taken her to the dog park yet but went by and it looked great. But if there are lots of dogs at the dog beach then it really isnt needed. Wonderful place!

Florida can be pretty dog unfriendly, but at least there's a place that welcomes dogs. I just wish it was bigger.
