About
The Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden is the only "frost-free" botanical garden in the continental United States. A tropical environment with ample rain allows most trees to retain their leaves in the dry season (December through late May). It is home to many endangered and threatened flora and fauna. Unlike traditional botanical gardens, this garden advocates as a teaching tool native plants and species in a natural conservation habitat. Tropical forests of the world hold at least half of all the variety of life on Earth. Moreover, the species found with the Caribbean are among the richest in plant and animal life on the planet. The Key West Forest & Garden is a special place where you can appreciate biodiversity and learn more about its importance. For instance, the forest has two of the last remaining fresh water ponds in the Keys and is a major migratory stopping point for neo-tropical birds from places as far as South America, as well as being home to many rare birds in the Florida Keys.Enjoy this "one of a kind" U S tropical forest and garden filled with butterflies, birds, plants and beautiful flowers. Your visit begins with a smiling volunteer greeter at our education center. See a short film and browse the photo walls. Pick up a Garden Guide that describes the 8 self-guided information tours, 2 wetland habitats and 2 butterfly gardens. The lush courtyard has a waterfall wall of tropical plants and below turtles happily show off their home. Meander through a one acre butterfly habitat with over 23 species discovered! Stroll through a lush canopy of tropical palms and trees. Discover the hidden pond and maybe get lucky enough to see a rare resident white crowned pigeon or bald eagle! Restrooms and refreshments are available.

    Very Much "Meh!"
While visiting Key West we stopped in here to tour the gardens. It was a very hot and humid day, but the majority of the walking areas were under the canopies of various trees. They do have an interesting assortment of trees and shrubs, but it’s otherwise pretty boring. Not many butterflies in the area where the blooming trees were. Some paths are bumpy and can be tough for handicapped patrons to walk on. Overall, we weren’t impressed with this place and wouldn’t go back. The Key West Garden Club is much prettier and more interesting to visit and it’s free. This place charges $10 per adult.

    Bring bug spray, otherwise pretty!
Pretty route and it was nice to see some butterflies and be in nature. My biggest recommendation is to advise guests to wear mosquito repellent - I got bitten alive and it impacted my enjoyment. I also found it relatively small, you only need 30 mins.

    Pretty views away from crowds
It was very pretty, nice break from all the crowds. It would be a nice place to eat your lunch. It's 10 dollars per adult. Manage expectations, it is a botanical gardens so if you are not interested in plants and trees it might not be very interesting to you.

    A Must See
What a wonderful surprise on Stock Island. It is beautiful. It was a little rainy and still had a great time walking the paths and looking at all the plants and cute decor. They have boats that used to bring people in from cuba (can not think of the name) sculpture garden. Historical and amazing how people could get so many miles in some of these "boats."

Beautiful vegetation. Nice walk through the foliage. Perfect for a leisurely day out. Walk can be as long or short as you want. Signage not great but wonderful place to get lost. Very enjoyable. Beautiful pond in the center.

Take your compass, the map you are given is very hard to follow and frustrating. Not much color except green 💚. Kind of mellow but level of frustration with the map ruined the vibe.

The lush vegetation and assorted animals were of interest to us, but few plants were identified, there was no information about the wildlife, and the paths were not labeled/maintained. It’s great that this area is undeveloped. It’s just too bad it is not maintained or more visitor friendly.

This is a nice place to visit and learn about the plants and butterflies of this region. They also have a cute treasure hunt game for the kids and the person in the reception was super nice. The ambient is tranquil and a great escape from the heat. Worth the visit. Only $20 for 4 people.

We spent a few hours here and enjoyed the peace and quiet, the Cuban Exhibit was particularly nice. Probably travelled at the wrong time of the year as there were no plants flowering. We saw plenty of Turtles and Lizards but not many birds, again maybe the wrong time of the year.
We enjoyed our time there but found the staff member very offish verging on rude.

Cool little nature walk and amazing Cuban boat display with historical facts. Lizards and iguanas everywhere and turtles in the main pond by entrance. Cool musical instruments that kids would love too.
