The Estate was built by Alexander Mackay, a Scottish entrepreneur & investor who bought the property on Lake Rochelle in 1915 and began construction of the Mackay family estate which he called La Rochelle. The estate’s 8,000 sq ft residence is an outstanding example of Craftsman style architecture, with sleeping porches and large porch columns, open interior spaces and a staircase in main room.

Be sure to bring your camera and plenty of time to walk around and enjoy the scenery. Feeling a little more adventurous? There is a canoe launch which offers beautiful view of the gardens from Lake Rochelle.

I attended a wedding on the grounds and it was such a pretty place. The rhododendron was in bloom. The building itself was perfect for a small reception. I think there were approximately 60 guests. It has a real rustic charm.

I have a home nearby but only found this place when my GPS showed it under Nearby Attractions. It's great! Lovely gardens and lakeside to wander around. Give it a try. You'll be glad you did.

We took a picnic lunch and sat under the pavilion - very quiet - nice playground area for children to play on - there was bathrooms available as well. Worth a visit !

This looks like a really nice spot for an outdoor wedding. The house overlooks a sweeping lawn extending down to the lake. We expected a trail along the lake but couldn't see one, so we just took a quick walk around.
