We really enjoyed wandering around this lovely little town, using our mural guide-book as our map. What a great way to preserve older buildings, showcase local history, & get tourists to the central business district of this small town! We actually learned a bit about some of the locals, as the murals themselves and the accompanying information in the guide made us curious enough to want to learn more. We even saw a new mural being started! Kudos to the town for this entire project, & to the locals for embracing the wandering pedestrians all over the downtown area. We started at the Chamber of Commerce, where we bought our guidebook, enjoyed a short video presentation, & saw the gallery of paintings from which the murals originated. Very interesting.

Hello visitors. Welcome to this lovely little enclave that I currently dwell in throughout the year. I see the current world destroying bug hasn't kept all of you away. Thank you for wearing masks. The murals are lovely, painted along so many of our local establishments. Please enjoy them. And while you're doing so, please be mindful that the thing you are slowly backing into to take that perfect vacation photo is called a road.
Yes. Sometimes you can scare us and make us have to brake hard as we carefully creep through town trying to avoid stray pedestrians several months out of the year. So stay. Eat. Drink. Relax. Have fun. We have so much to offer, especially over at The Journal Plaza on the east end of Main Street. You'll find some wonderful things in store for you over these. Bye 👋 now!

Stop by the Caladium Cooperative for your $3 guide and then spend a leisurely day seeing and photographing the many beautiful murals of this delightful little city.

We got interested in wall murals along Route 66. Starting with the Walldogs murals in Pontiac, Illinois. The murals in Lake Placid are not as colorful or has interesting but they are still worth an hour walking and the $4 for the book which can be picked up at several locations in town. There are 47 murals of varying size. So disappointed the Depot Museum was closed. You get a whole different perspective on the art when you get to talk to a local that is really interested in it. Also disappointed that most of the restaurants were closed. There is a nice shaded park in the middle of town that is perfect to take a break and have a picnic.

The murals are painted on the sides of the buildings in "downtown" Lake Placid. The town is a very quiet, sleepy area where you can leisurely stroll and enjoy the massive murals. We spent about 45 minutes and saw most of them. It was a nice way to see the town and spend some time outside.

Beautiful murals in the town of Lake Placid. Nice variety of subject matter in the murals and they are a picturesque attraction throughout the town. We’ll spend more time next trip looking for more murals.

We went to Lake Placid specifically to see the murals and were not disappointed. Make sure you pick up a brochure at one of the stores that sell them (Blueberry Patch - which is a great store) and check when they're open before you go. Many appear 3D and for some you'll need a tripod to get the entire thing in your photos.
There are a lot of murals to see, and they are for the most part down 2 main streets, so you can see most of them while walking. There are also decorated trash cans and a clown museum there. Definitely an interesting town!

I had seen pictures on line, but in person it is an experience. We stopped in The Chamber of Commerce , watched the film all free....then bought the book and saw them all for ourselves. Walk at your pace and see the beautiful paintings.
