We’ve been on the Molly Bawn boat tour 4 times. Our family loves the small boat and knowledgeable guide. In addition to seeing multiple breaching whales, we were even fortunate enough to see the white puffin! We always recommend this tour to all of our guests!

We are not the kind of people who want to do a boat trip with hundreds of people, so we chose Molly Bawn. The tour was amazing, even though the day was rather gray and drizzly. They have a biologist on board, and we spent most to the trip talking with her - we learned so much! We had seen puffins from the shore before, but it was such fun to see them fly above us or pop out of the water in front of the bow. The humpbacks weren't around, but we saw a fin whale, which was a big thrill for someone from the west coast. It was the perfect kind of boat trip for us.

This was exactly what I was looking for. Its not one of those big whale watching trips with 20-30 people, its a very small boat that can hold 12 people. My family of four were the only ones on it that trip. The seas were rough but this type of boat can easily handle it. We seen several whales and lots of birds. It was the puffins that were to fat from fish to fly that were everyone's favorite. Great Trip. Note - be prepared to pay cash - they do not accept credit cards.

The only way to have closer contact with the whales is if you had a wet suit! The Molly Bawn is a fishing boat, not a tourist cruise yacht. And the crew are people who love to share their love of whales with you. The ride itself is worth the (very reasonable!) price of admission. Getting right up close to humpbacks is just a whole other level of awesome. And if that's not quite enough, then throw in some puffins, murrs, and a bald eagle poised over its nest. All in all, an incredible, indelible hour and a half. You feel like an observer, not a tourist. It's an experience not to be missed.

The tour was small and intimate. We were the only two passengers on the Molly Bawn boat that day. It was just the two of us, the captain and a biologist. We wanted to see the beautiful nature of the Newfoundland coast -- the whales and seabirds and tons of other wildlife as well -- and we did! Having a biologist on board to point out the different species and explain why they were unique and special was a real treat. This is not a party boat -- that's what the big outfits are for. This is the boat to take if you want to see and learn about the wildlife in this very special part of the world.

What makes this tour special is the small size and the enthusiasm of the crew. The boat dock is located in a lovely little cove in Mobile. On our tour we saw puffins, eagles, and mink whales. The small numbers allowed for a commentary that met the needs of the group. All of our questions were answered. The crew went to extra effort so that we saw whales (we were out for 90 minutes instead of the scheduled 60).

Molly Bawn Great Island Whale & Puffin Tours operates a boat out of Mobile harbor on the coast of Newfoundland south of St. John's. We chose them because the maximum number allowed on their boats is 12 plus the captain and a biologist. Unlike much larger operations that take scores of tourist in large boats that includes singing group songs, Molly Bawn concentrates on the biologist's talks about the animals and their environment. Jeannine, the biologist on our boat who moved to Newfoundland after completing her graduate degree in Germany made our trip very special with the information she imparted. Captain Chris piloted the boat from island to island among the 5 Islands area and brought us close to shore to get a good look at the puffins, eagles (adult & male). On our trip we were only able have one whale sighting due to migration patterns. We'd definitely choose Molly Bawn again. We chose an early departure and our boat only had 8 passengers. Mike, who works for the operation at the dock was terrific in getting us set up and suggesting a good departure time.

My friends and I were passing through the area, hiking the East Coast Trail, and some people we met in a coffee shop recommended Molly Bawn to us as "an opportunity not to pass up".

We took these words seriously, and booked a tour. Could not be more pleased with our experience! We were lucky enough to see a few species of whales, and not to mention the massive puffin population on the island!

But thanks to Janine (sp?), we were able to learn a ton about the whales while searching for them. She was very knowledgeable and obviously loved what she does. I also appreciated the respect that Molly Bawn paid to the wildlife. We approached the whales slowly and were careful not to disturb them.

Even if we hadn't had the once in a lifetime to be curiously approached by a group of whales, the experience itself was worth the time and money. Cordial and organized staff, safe boat, and a care for the wildlife we were searching for.

Great time! I'd highly recommend it!

This whale watching boat was a GREAT one! We saw plenty of humpback whales, puffins, razor bills, muirs, kittiwaks, bald eagles and even dolphins! We took the boat in late June 2011 (Ignore below that it says 2014) and have kept in touch with them ever since!! HIGHLY recommend if you are in Newfoundland!

I'm seconding what the other reviewers have said. This was not Disneyland, but a wonderful experience for anyone curious about the sea life of the north Atlantic, close up, and guided by two knowledgeable and sympathetic individuals. Highly recommended.
