Take a 3-hour boat tour (see Breakwater Adventures and go with Captain Alex) and learn about the concrete houses, the history of the shifting sands that created the current geography, learn about the exploration by Ponce de Leon and... Interesting to see building in the ocean.its Hard to believe that the buildings were once on the beach. It's to bad that people had to write all over them.

Booked this tour thru Tripadvisor . Don't know exact name of tour company but it leaves from Caxambas Park Marina in Marco Island. Didn't really know what to expect but reason of booking was to see the Cape Romano Dome House. All i can say that the trip was fantastic , the captain of the small boat was Chris, his... More

My friends and I wanted to do something different so planned a boat trip to Cape Romano to see the dome house that is now close to disappearing into the sea. Read about the history of the dome house before taking the boat trip. It is a fascinating read. We went by boat and our captain, Chris, was great. He... More

After reading the history of these Dome Houses, I needed to see whats left of them in person. Was well worth the trip with Dreamlander Tours.

The cruise from Goodland at low tide is tricky at some points, with low water. Markers are red right ascending. Beach is beautiful, and short walk to see dome houses that are run down, but interesting concept.

interesting homes that were self sufficient on the tip of an island. storms eroded the beach so now the beach has receded and the homes are in the ocean, accessible only by boat.

Someone had an idea for the Hesse pods back n the early 70's- it was a great idea, until a huge storm wiped it out. You can only get to by boat, so it is interesting to see a glimpse of one man's dream that was shattered.. It is still very interesting to see, even thou partially summer fed now.... More

Cape Romao is about 5 Mi south of Marco Island's Caxambus Pass via boat (only way to get there). The dome home used to be on land but has been slowly washing out to sea since Hurricane Wilma in 2005. You can still see pilings from other homes that used sit fairly close to "The Dome House". Worth the trip.
