We had rented a boat and found our way to Cape Romano. It is such an interesting place. The pod houses provide a good fishing spot and the island is full of surprises.

What an exotic place. Can only be visited from the water. Better go soon, Irma took out another of these unique places. Went there with own boat. After Irma even more difficult to navigate.

Some decrepit houses being reclaimed into the ocean is hardly cause for joy. Many better things to do and places to see.

If boating in the Marco area, this is a traditional place to visit. Some cool history and great views.Boating in the area is a little tricky as there are many sandbars and they do move with time.Great secluded beaches in the area.

Once you get to Cape Romano Island, you could walk/swim out to the houses (the water is not deep), but you do have to get to the island in the first place.
