Overview
More
Zoo Miami (also known as The Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens) is the largest and oldest zoological garden in Florida, and the only sub-tropical zoo in the continental United States. The unique climate in South Florida allows us to keep a wide variety of animals from Asia, Australia and Africa, representing a broad mix of species that is unlike any other zoo in the country. Zoo Miami today occupies almost 750 acres, and is home to more than 3,000 animals representing over 500 different species. Of this population, more than 40 species are classified as endangered. The zoo also houses more than 1,000 species of trees, palms and other plants, and over 100 special exhibits showcasing a broad number of species and scientific topics. We are accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) which means we have passed a rigorous application and inspection process and meet or exceed the AZA's standards for animal health and welfare, fundraising, zoo staffing, and involvement in global conservation efforts. Zoo Miami is proud to be an active leader in many global wildlife and environmental conservation initiatives, and we are currently involved in over 36 projects taking place on six continents.

Zoo Miami is a great zoo with lots of animals. Because they're kept in large areas, be ready to walk, or better yet, rent the carts. The carts make it fun and a bit more relaxing. Highly suggest you don't go mid-day, as most animals...More

Miami Zoo is well setup and has a little bit for everyone, if your kids are below 12 you will love it. a bit trickier for teenagers. The gorilla habitat is specially impressive.

To start, this zoo is huge! We always think of zoos as half day adventures but we spent the entire day here from the minute they opened until they closed and still didn’t experience everything they have to offer! They have free and ample parking....More

We liked the zoo. Lots of animals we did not see before. Some areas feel like you are in a jungle or rainforest - very well done. Other sections have animals spaced apart so when you walk you see an animal every 1-2 minutes. This...More

What a nice small aquarium. Perfect to spend a few hours. We enjoyed the presentations and shows. My kids and I really relished the sting ray feeding tank.

Would be strange if they were allowed unless they are working animals. The zoo animals would get too agitated.

No saltwater fish, but there is a nice freswater fish viewing area inside the Wings of Asia aviary at the zoo. Would check out the Miami Seaquarium if looking for an aquarium.
