The Florida State Park system sponsors special "geo-caching" sites whereby one can obtain a special "challenge coin" upon finding 40 (of the nearly 70) "hides." This park is ENORMOUS and a great place to hike and bike on nicely maintained dedicated trails, many of which...More

It's a nice weekend get away. I wouldn't go when it's hot as a lot of the trails don't have much shade. Also the wild life don't like to come out when it's hot. We did not see any buffalo!

My husband and I spent a few days here camping in our Motorhome with our old dog. I guess Florida prairies are nothing like the prairies we had in Texas! The area was wooded, with great big oaks shading all the camping spots. The online...More

My ice and visited one evening approximately 1 hour before dark. Got to see wild horses, buffalo, and so many deer we lost count. Truly a beautiful park worth the visit.

We were a group of 4 spending 1 day at the park. First we went to the visitor information centre. I'm glad we did. It was helpful to prepare us northerners on do's and don'ts with the wildlife. Specifically the attendant said to stay on...More

We braved the heat and the humidity and survived! We saw wild horses, a few gators and several different species of birds. We went through the north entrance and didn't see as much as we would have like, but will definitely return in the fall...More

Very large park with several long trails. It was so hot when we were there that was out of the question. We went to the visitors center and watched a nice film about the place then walked to the observation tower. I climbed all the...More

There was a lot to see in the park. From many birds to other animals such as deer the wild horses and some alligators. Saw all of those but was unable to find the bison but saw signs of them every where. I do recommend...More

If you're in the Gainesville area you must go. Take your friends/family if they come to visit you. At the observation point, I saw two alligators. To get into the Payne's Prarie area, it's $6 per car. So, carpool if you can.

We walked the main trail into the park and out to the observation platform. The first section is paved roadway and fairly narrow so you would have to watch for walkers. Then there is a narrow gateway onto the boardwalk area... More
