We, as a family, have been going to Torrence Barrens for years and years. It has always been a 'go to place' when we are searching for 'something to do' or 'somewhere to go' and it never fails to amaze! There is so much going...More

One of my preferred places to visit outside yet close to Toronto. The place is a dark sky preserve which allows visitors to view the stars and find constellations and when lucky get possible viewings of northern lights. A nice place to get away from...More

Have been going there since 2005. Glad to see that the authorities are implementing regulations so that this precious eco-sensitive land is protected and people who visit respect this place enough to be considerate to take all their trash and waste with them. It is...More

The trails cover lots of territory - getting to the Pine Ridge is nice but the ridge itself is long and uninteresting - and some essential bridges are under water. We also were disappointed that some of the best spots had people setting up camps...More

Went to Torrance last week thinking we could gaze at stars. Though the journey was a bit disappointing for us, I can recommend this place for people who wishes to gaze stars. This place is 2 hours drive from Toronto. The last 30km drive is...More

Sounded like a nice place. Took a drive up. Parked at one of the "sites" off the side of the road (had a fire pit and clear flat rock access). Didn't set up a tent or make any garbage. Apparently, parking a vehicle is camping!...More

This is a beautiful place to visit and we had the good fortune to be able to camp once. However on our last trip we were informed camping is no longer permitted due to over use and abuse by some campers.

Spent a few hours late day and into the evening hearing and seeing birds. After dark, heard multiple Whip-poor-wills along the road. Many Song Sparrows, Swamp Sparrows, Towhees, Eastern Kingbirds, Common Yellowthroats and more!

We used to hike this trail at least once every summer. Last summer we were shocked to see people drinking alcohol in front of their tents all along the trail with their laundry hanging in the bushes. (Where did they wash them?) Garbage was littered...More

Seeing the northern lights from this locale is possible. But you would need a clear sky especially to the north (Site 2578: Torrance Barrens Dark-Sky Preserve). You would be more likely to see the "lights" off the highway... More
