Overview
More
Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a 13,000 acre Preserve. The Sanctuary is open daily from 7-5:30 with last admission at 4:30 pm. Visitors will find a gentle, pristine wilderness that dates back more than 500 years. A 2.25 mile boardwalk meanders through pine flatwoods, wet prairie, around a marsh and finally into the largest old growth Bald Cypress forest in North America. These impressive trees, relatives of the redwood, tower 130 feet into the sky and have a girth of 25 feet. Their massive branches are draped with mosses, lichens, bromeliads and ferns. The forest is also home to alligators, otters, white-tailed deer and red-bellied turtles. A wide variety of wading birds, songbirds, raptors and the fabulous Painted Bunting can be seen throughout the year. Photo opportunities are available at every turn of the boardwalk trail.

This was my second time to visit the sanctuary. My husband and I arrived early to try to photograph as many birds and wildlife as possible. Saw a lot of egrets, herons and even a kingfisher. Be prepared for the mosquitoes though, but of course,...More

We were in Naples a month and visited Corkscrew two or three times a week. It never disappointed. It is a boardwalk that winds through diverse ecosystems and the birding is phenomenal. The lakes are especially exciting with so many waterbirds, alligators and turtles seemingly...More

Nature trail has a wooden walkway that keeps you out of the swamps. Nice welcome air condition center. Avoid a hot humid day. The walk is long, but there are rest areas along the way. Mosquitoes were a problem the day we were there. Didn't...More

After a very dry winter I went to the Sanctuary. There was almost absolutely nothing to see, no wild life. Everything was dried up. The only thing we saw was vultures, gross. One alligator in a dried up pond.

This is a must see for outdoor lovers and birdwatching. The boardwalk is very easy to walk and there is a nice gift shop as well.

Got to see lots of alligators in their natural habitat. The birds are beautiful. Be sure to take your water as the boardwalk is long and your bug spray.

Yes, with supervision. The boardwalk has a railing throughout but as we've seen kids can sometimes overcome barriers if they're determined and not supervised. You might call the sanctuary for further guidance but I didn't... More

Not sure you really need one as they have volunteers stationed around the boardwalk that will help with sightings. They also offer tours. If you contact them they may have some independent guides they work with.
