Overview
More
Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a 13,000 acre Preserve. The Sanctuary is open daily from 7-5:30 with last admission at 4:30 pm. Visitors will find a gentle, pristine wilderness that dates back more than 500 years. A 2.25 mile boardwalk meanders through pine flatwoods, wet prairie, around a marsh and finally into the largest old growth Bald Cypress forest in North America. These impressive trees, relatives of the redwood, tower 130 feet into the sky and have a girth of 25 feet. Their massive branches are draped with mosses, lichens, bromeliads and ferns. The forest is also home to alligators, otters, white-tailed deer and red-bellied turtles. A wide variety of wading birds, songbirds, raptors and the fabulous Painted Bunting can be seen throughout the year. Photo opportunities are available at every turn of the boardwalk trail.

Great boardwalk and gift shop. Entrance fee is $20; if it was cheaper, would have gone back again to enjoy the surroundings.

This is an excellent walk on the longest boardwalk in the area. You can walk through a variety of ecosystems. We saw buntings warblers, limpkins, as well as the usual herons, egrets, and anhingas, and ibises.

My in-laws (in their 80's) came to visit for 2 weeks and wanted to visit. We had not been here either and were delighted to walk through the area. There are two trails based on endurance which worked out great as my mother in-law did...More

Well kept and clean grounds. Interesting story on how this was settled and then eventually donated to the state of Florida.

My teenager and I stopped en route from Tampa to Fort Lauderdale, FL so that we could have a break and spend some time outdoors. This place is fantastic! Part of the Audubon society, this preserve has a 2+ mile boardwalk which immerses you into...More

We spent the afternoon here and will likely come back, either earlier or later as our chances of seeing more wildlife and bird life will be better. It's a wonderful little sanctuary home to a variety of bird life and wildlife. Thanks to the wonderful...More

We visited today and had a great time! We spent about 4 hours walking the boardwalk. We saw a lot of birds, and the bigger ones sat pretty still so it was easy to take lots of photos. There were quite a few people, but...More

Boardwalks are not uncommon in Florida but this is the longest I have ever seen and we spent several hours exploring it. The boardwalk provides access to areas that would otherwise be inaccessible to the average person, and the opportunties for viewing wildlife and studying...More
