Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a 13,000 acre Preserve. The Sanctuary is open daily from 7-5:30 with last admission at 4:30 pm. Visitors will find a gentle, pristine wilderness that dates back more than 500 years. A 2.25 mile boardwalk meanders through pine flatwoods, wet prairie, around a marsh and finally into the largest old growth Bald Cypress forest in North America. These impressive trees, relatives of the redwood, tower 130 feet into the sky and have a girth of 25 feet. Their massive branches are draped with mosses, lichens, bromeliads and ferns. The forest is also home to alligators, otters, white-tailed deer and red-bellied turtles. A wide variety of wading birds, songbirds, raptors and the fabulous Painted Bunting can be seen throughout the year. Photo opportunities are available at every turn of the boardwalk trail.

Have visited a number of times. We always try to go when in the area and is always well worth it. Great how everyone whispers on the way round to minimise the chance of disturbing the wildlife. Such a relaxing walk and a great way to see all the wildlife although sometimes you see more than others, depends on season... More

A wonderful experience of nature in Collier County. A boardwalk leads you to the heart of the Swamp. Its a Kodak moment! We took pictures of the alligators, of an owl you could almost reach out and touch, and a panther.

Perfect nature outing for family. Saw so many incredible birds, alligators, turtles, snakes, fish - there were too many to name. Try going on a cooler/overcast day and earlier in the morning, definitely before 11:00 a.m. - kids loved seeing all of the wildlife and walking on the boardwalk - great adventure!

It took us 2.5 hrs. to walk the 2.5 miles through the sanctuary! There were soooo many birds: snowy egrets, limpkins, green herons, blue herons, etc. I loved it that there were signs that said to whisper so as not to disturb the animals, it made it lovely to be in the woods. Thankfully, there were signs posted pointing out... More

Want to see the real Florida? Come here, Spend a few hours or an entire day. Early morning, there are birds galore. All types of wildlife, alligators, snakes, fish, and birds. Bring your binoculars and camera. Don't forget the bug repellant. The guides on the property are very informative and adept at pointing out creatures that you would never notice.... More

This Audubon property is a gem. The 2.25 miles of board walk takes you through a number of different types of sub-tropical areas from old forest to new forest to lakes region plus a couple of more. If you can make it at the crack of dawn, you're likely to have the best critter viewing. We watched an alligator swimming... More

We loved the scenery and the wildlife. We didn't wear camouflage and our brightly colored clothes were scarring away the animals.

Once a month they are open in the evening, the hour and a half before sunset is a good time to see wildlife. Usually the deeper into the swamp the more you see. Do take the short side walks, they are there for a reason. On one of them we saw painted buntings! There are almost always ibises, egrets, and... More

What a nice 2 + mile walk. I thought it was expensive , $12.00 per person. No maps except in the $3.00 book you could buy (which we did). It is dry there right now, as is southern FL I guess. Not swampy at all. We were told in that case go to the right past the lettuce lakes to... More
