Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is a 13,000 acre Preserve. The Sanctuary is open daily from 7-5:30 with last admission at 4:30 pm. Visitors will find a gentle, pristine wilderness that dates back more than 500 years. A 2.25 mile boardwalk meanders through pine flatwoods, wet prairie, around a marsh and finally into the largest old growth Bald Cypress forest in North America. These impressive trees, relatives of the redwood, tower 130 feet into the sky and have a girth of 25 feet. Their massive branches are draped with mosses, lichens, bromeliads and ferns. The forest is also home to alligators, otters, white-tailed deer and red-bellied turtles. A wide variety of wading birds, songbirds, raptors and the fabulous Painted Bunting can be seen throughout the year. Photo opportunities are available at every turn of the boardwalk trail.

Visited Corkscrew Swamp and it is a very nice walk on a board walk over the swamp amongst huge cypress trees. Very disappointed as there was no wild life that i could see. Perhaps too many tourists have scared alligators etc. away. A few weeks...More

This place was amazing! The entrance fee is good for 2 days and I recommend going both days. We took the long walk both days and saw completely different animals.

The boardwalk through the swamp is awesome! We saw all kinds of wildlife including alligators. The facilities are wonderful! They offer a lot of information about the swamp! We went early in the morning it was cooler and the insects were not bad!

This is a very special attraction..it allows us to see this area before it became a town. Walk the boardwalks see alligators birds and if your lucky the elusive ghost orchid. With friends or alone, this is a very special place.

Yes, it was hot! But, this is late June in a swamp in South Florida. I live in Fort Lauderdale, I know what to expect. That said, it's a tranquil lovely 2 1/4 mile walk through some of the best swampland around. It's a little...More

2-3 hour boardwalk (option of a shortcut available). Superb views from the swamps to the open wet land. The pure atmosphere when you're in the depth of the swamps was fantastic. Be patient, be very quiet and you will no doubt see some wildlife. We...More

We decided to walk through through the Corkscrew Swamp on our way to the airport back home. I wouldn't recommend this because we got very hot and sweaty. However, the scenery was beautiful and I would highly recommend it. The walk is a winding planked...More

Yes, with supervision. The boardwalk has a railing throughout but as we've seen kids can sometimes overcome barriers if they're determined and not supervised. You might call the sanctuary for further guidance but I didn't... More

Not sure you really need one as they have volunteers stationed around the boardwalk that will help with sightings. They also offer tours. If you contact them they may have some independent guides they work with.
