Established in 2019, Shale Ridge Estate Winery & Cidery is located in Thedford, Ontario serving local, homegrown, premium wine and cider products. We are thrilled to create memorable experiences for families, friends, and couples that will last a lifetime!

Our spontaneous drop in at Shale Ridge was a lovely surprise in every way.
Our hosts/owners Alicia & Garren went out of their way to answer questions and provided us with insight into their winery/cidery and the range of products on offer. Their brand new tasting room with whimsical accent swing tables both inside & out provided a playful aspect to the location There is a variety of seating but reservations are recommended on busy summer weekends.
Tasting flights are available in white wine, red wine & ciders.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us during your spontaneous visit to Shale Ridge! We are glad to know that you enjoyed your experience while speaking with the owners.
As mentioned, we do have a variety of seating options available for our guests to choose from like our popular Swing Tables.
Soon, our new outdoor patio will be completed and it will be worth checking out.

Shale Ridge is a very disappointing place to visit. If you want to feel respected and appreciated as a customer, this is not the place to visit. There are many other amazing local places to visit that provide a welcoming environment with tasty food, great drinks, great prices, and a smile! Shale Ridge was incredibly unwelcoming. While I can understand service may be slow, no one should need to seek out a staff member to ask about how to get service/seated and worse, once seated, not to be acknowledged or spoken to by the servers is unacceptable. At the very least, I expect to be greeted with a smile and a hello. If they are busy, a simple moment to acknowledge that they know we are there is not too much to expect. I will be enjoying drinks at other local establishments from now on.

The winery is about 20 minutes from Grand Bend Beach (add the beach to your roadtrip!). There are picnic tables for walk-ins and there are swinging tables available but those are by reservation only, so make sure to call ahead because they're so much more fun. We ordered a flight of ciders and a flight of wines - the presentation was lovely and both options are tasty. A must try is the rose slushie! They also offer small charcutterie boxes. We enjoyed swinging and sipping and would definitely plan a return visit in the future.

We stopped here during a day trip. It had been recommended by a friend. The customer service was excellent. We didn’t have a reservation and the place was packed but Sean found us a couple of seats on the patio. Nice view and a great atmosphere. Wines, ciders and food were all delicious. We will definitely return. A reservation is recommended

Excellent experience! The swing tables are a must try. Everything was fantastic. The flights were great and I loved the frosé too. I would 100% recommend visiting. They also have a great selection of merchandise in their store as well!

This is a really nice spot with the unique swing tables. The cider was very good as was the pizza. However, I'm not impressed with a $5.50ish cover charge and then being told we can only stay 75 minutes.

Thanks for leaving us with your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed the Shale Ridge swing table experience while trying our cider and pizza.
Unfortunately, the $5.25 swing table fee is only applied to our swing tables. This is because these tables are very popular and get reserved weeks in advance. Due to high demand, we can only allow 75 minutes for a swing table reservation to accommodate the reservation after yours.
We do have other seating available that does not require an additional fee or seating limit.
Hope you get the chance to visit us again sometime!

Came as a girls day trip with my friends and we had an absolute blast. Our server was the sweetest. She made great suggestions on food and pairings. The drinks and food were fantastic

We had a wonderful visit, it did help that the sun was shining! We were greeted by a friendly server and sat outside on a beautiful patio. Enjoyed some amazing charcuterie and some of the frozen wine drinks. All served with a smile. Thanks.

Very odd experience. Staff were not educated on the wines. Wines were ok, not a big selection. Not a winery experience I was expecting. We were hoping to try wines from their vineyard but looks like they outsource from other regions.

Hi Andrea,
Thank-you for sharing your thoughts with us. At Shale Ridge we are putting a modern spin on the traditional Winery experience so we are not surprised this is something you noticed while visiting. We are known for our unique and inviting experience and although we are doing things slightly different, we do use traditional methods within our wine and cider making practices. All of the apples are sourced from our family farm down the Ridge for our cider. Our grapes were mostly planted in 2020 and do take time to mature, we are proud to support other local farmers in Ontario with established vineyards to help compliment our wines as we are not producing enough to meet our demand at this time. We do have a portfolio of over 7 wines currently and this is a wide selection for a new winery, offering something for everyone. We strive to continue growing our staff and community knowledge on wine, cider and our region as we are one of the trailblazers in Lambton County.
