This is where the entrance to universal parks are so you get a lot of people but not much to do here. We went to Hard Rock (overpriced) and walked around few stores.

You don't always need to go to the Universal parks. You can just go to Citywalk. However, you will still have to pay 20 dollars parking if you drive to it. Lots of restaurants and shops. A cinema. Bars. Photo opportunities. Well worth a visit,

Yes it is a great time for all ages!
We have an older adult who will be visiting the parks with us. She does not enjoy rides, but we would like her to be with us when we queue (so she's not alone). We think she would enjoy some of the "cool" queue scenery. Is it possible for her to queue, but not ride?

Yes. At most rides, there is a place just before boarding for people with small children, infants, older people, or those who just don't want to ride, to step aside and wait. I'm not sure if it was available at all rides... More
