I enjoyed learning about the fort, its purpose, and imagining how it all would've worked. Once you've done that there's trails and that's what I always went back for.

What a lot of history this old fort has! Beautiful, peaceful grounds to tour at your leisure. Plaques to tell the history and explain what and why things exist. Park ranger tours available but were done for the day when we arrived but was able...More

A worthwhile stop on the way to the Naval museum. We stopped at the visitor center before walking up to the fort. Watched a short video about the fort. Received a short briefing and map of the fort and were on our way. The video,...More

This is a workout, but worth it. Lots of stairs and steep inclines, but you will be in awe of the American heroes that were brave enough to serve here. One caveat...be careful, as there are some bees that set up camp in some of...More

A remarkable place to visit. Our whole family enjoyed the visit. It's a self guided tour. Lots of history there. From the Spanish to the Civil War. A Confederate Fort and you can easily see Fort Pickens across the bay which was the Union Fort.

We've been to a number of forts before, but this is the first time we realized that there were a string of forts established along the east and gulf coast of the United States prior to the Civil War. We had a guided tour by...More

Decided to take the kiddos here due to all the great reviews. A lot of history and a really nice fort. I would suggest wearing tennis shoes and definitely taking a bottle of water especially during summer. We truly enjoyed the forts at one point...More

This is the most well preserved fort that I have ever visited. There are so many different hallways to explore in this fort. It seems like every part of it is open to the public to explore. It has an amazing and rich history to...More

Visited the fort on vacation. We love history so we had to stop here. It's amazing. You wouldn't believe how large this fort and the advance redoubt are. The passages at the fort are unending, you don't know what's around the next corner. Nicely preserved...More

I went to both in the same day they are an hour apart and I would definitely choose Fort Pickens. The drive there is beautiful and worth the trip but a little long. Fort Barrancas is on a military base and a little hard to... More
