- barbibooChampaign, Illinois53 contributionsFun way to learn about pirates.Although this is a small museum, it is very well done. I felt it was presented how Disney would do it with lots of pictures, things to read, life-like mannequins, characters talking to us, etc. To make it more fun, you could find the special hidden boxes throughout the display. If all were found, you could grab a trinket at the end in the gift shop. There was even a spooky room that shared the sounds of what being in the ship's hold might feel like as the pirates were fighting up top. I learned a ton about Sir Francis Drake and so many other pirates that came through Florida in the early days. We were lucky to go through between some student groups, but otherwise it could be claustrophobic with a lot of kids around. We did the self-guided version, but we did see a costumed pirate taking some groups around as well.Hi there! Thank you so much for your detailed review. - Derk5658Oldsmar, Florida170 contributionsGreat KID adventureI visited with my 10 year old grandson. It was very interactive and informative. There was a guide that was ahead of us with a school field trip so we listened to him tell stories about what we were seeing. Plenty of spots for the kids to put "hands on"! Employees were fantastic!!!Thanks so much for this awesome review! - banana26 contributionsFun placeIt was a small museum but had lots of information on pirates and treasures. It was self guided and interactive. Fun part was the treasure hunt for my 7 yr old granddaughter. Yes it was pricey but it was like all the attractions in St Augustine.Hi there! - battlelj17 contributionsGreat, heat of the day activityThis museum has a lively, interactive pirate hoard of information! Our kids (10, 12, 14) enjoyed the displays and the scavenger hunt. Slightly over-priced but worth the respite from the heat outside. Good afternoon, break from the beach activity. Thanks so much for this great review! - Dave IWestover, Maryland947 contributionsOkay, but not the best museumExpecting a little more from this tour for $17.49 per adult. It was informative and had some nice exhibits but thought it would take longer than one hour to tour. Restrooms and gift shop available. No parking directly at the site, but the Old City Trolley has a stop at this location.Hi there! Thank you for visiting us at the St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum. - Courtney S2 contributionsIrish AKA Pirate Professor AKA Snackbeard makes the visit fun/educational!5 out of 5! I’m rating 5/5 because of the tour my friends and I were lucky enough to catch! It was led by Irish (aka Pirate Professor aka Snackbeard)! The passion he made for pirates- you can hear it in his voice- and the INSANE niche knowledge base Irish has about pirates is absolutely astounding! The guide always makes it breaks the visit and he made my visit memorable!Wow! Thanks for this glowing review, Courtney! We're so happy that you caught a tour with Irish and we truly appreciate this shout-out! - Katie PJackson, Tennessee83 contributionsGreat for young kidsI went here with 4 children ranging in age from 2 to 6. They loved it. I would recommend trying to do a guided tour to help them focus. The museum also lets them fill out an activity and get a “treasure” at the end of the experience, which the kids loved. Avoid the cannons if your kids are scared of loud noises lol.Four kids under the age of six - - sounds like an ultra fun day at the St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum! - Njeri WAtlanta, Georgia176 contributionsEye-opening Compact MuseumThis is a small museum that uses its space well. It can be a bit scary for kids so beware if you have little ones. - Mary GBoston, Massachusetts60 contributionsOverdelivers!I was suspicious that this museum might be a tourist trap but I came to find that it is truly a legitimate museum and a worthwhile visit. The ticket price is perhaps a bit high but there were a lot of interesting and unique artifacts. The theming and interactivity of the exhibits was impressive. It is clear that the owners and curators have invested the time and money to make this an educational and fun place to visit and learn. We visited it without kids and enjoyed it.This review made our day! Visitors are often pleasantly surprised to discover that our collection features over 800 authentic artifacts from the Golden Age of Piracy. Suggested by Royal Caribbean and so disappointed. the interactive displays didn't work. out of maybe 8 6 didnt work. The elevator was out of service - so not able to get to the second floor. The nicest person was the clerk in the gift shop. Lots of stairs if you do it with the Sky ride.
Definitely not worth the money at all.

The curator of this museum spent a lifetime collecting artifacts of pirates and their history. He has paints and mannequins depicting real pirates and a brief history of each one. There's lots of weapons on display. Worth the visit since Florida is pirate territory. Buy tickets at the gift shop. Open late so no rush to get to. Lots of bottles and even the saloon cocktail recipes. Fun activity

Interesting and informative little museum. We spent about an hour and a half there reading all the placards. There were many families there with young children who all seemed to enjoy it greatly.

We really enjoyed the experience here. My 4 year old loved the scavenger hunt. A staff member even did a magic trick for my son with "buried treasure" that he got to keep as a souvenir!

Really a fun museum. Lots of interactive displays where you can actually learn alot about the pirates who plundered early Florida, how they lived on board their ships and their fates. The second half of the museum is devoted to how pirates have been depicted in films and on TV -- also very interesting and probably more entertaining for the kids. Great gift shop, too! I love my skull and crossbones T-shirt!

The museum itself deserves 5 stars. It was really interesting and interactive. I liked the treasure map you got at the beginning and being able to find hidden items throughout the museum. I also think they have one of the coolest gift shops! We bought a lot of souvenirs there. There is only one major reason I don’t give this place 5 stars: staff. I’m not looking to get anyone in trouble with this, but I think a discussion needs to be had with employees about what is appropriate to say to visitors. I don’t think this employee meant to be rude/hurtful, but she was. We were checking out of the gift shop and one of the women behind the counter asks me, “So when are you having your baby?!” I said, “What?” And she then repeated herself. I then, humiliated, had to tell her, “I’m not pregnant.” She said she was very sorry but that was not a question she should have asked. I am already extremely self-conscious and this was very upsetting. It put a dampener on the rest of the day. Unless someone actually tells you they are pregnant, you don’t say anything, even if you are certain they are. It’s a very sensitive topic for a lot of people. So again, I don’t want to get anyone in trouble because this employee did apologize, but I don’t want anyone else to be hurt with comments like this. It was so embarrassing and upsetting for me. My husband was obviously upset too. This was not something I wanted to hear about my appearance on my honeymoon.

This has to be one of the top two attractions in St Augustine. Everything was very well displayed and told stories about many legendary pirates and some we never knew about. There is a “treasure hunt” that keeps kids interested and the sheer history keeps the adults interested. Highly recommend this place.

I really liked this place. The history is fascinating and presented well. Kids will love it! There are canons to fire, a scavenger hunt along the way, and the Jolly Roger to hoist! I combined this ticket with The Colonial Experience (next door) for best value!

Hello, can you accommodate someone on an electric mobility device, or do you have wheelchairs available?

I did not see any wheelchairs available. It might be a little tight for an electric mobility device. I would call them and ask how they feel about it.

Do they do the pirate tour every day? and at what times do they start?
Cynthia P
Arlington Heights, Illinois36 contributions
This is a self-guided tour through a museum. It's open everyday (I'm sure there are exceptions for Easter and Christmas). For an additional fee you can also tour the Colonial Village.
How long should I expect to be there?
M J
Lawrenceville, GA51 contributions
If I remember correctly it was not long, you can do the tour which was maybe a half hour maybe 45min, but well worth the tour. Or you can just go look through the museum on your own!

This may be a dumb question, but are pets allowed? I have an ESA (canine) that is under 15 lbs, is quiet, and can be in a bag/carrier the entire time.

They may not permit the dog, only because the artifacts are so rare and ancient they take a lot of precautions in protecting them. I would recommend calling ahead and double checking. The staff is friendly and it won't feel like a dumb question. Goodluck.

In regards to parking? Where and how much does it cost?
Cindy S
St. Augustine, FL2 contributions
If you come early in the day you can usually park across the street at the Castillo de San Marcos parking lot which is metered. I believe it's $1.00 per hour. If you are doing other things downtown you can park at the parking garage all day for $12. It's a short walk from the garage to the Pirate Museum. I hope we see you soon!
