We are always looking for free things to do while on vacation. So glad we came upon Weedon Island Preserve. When we first arrived we visited the center. We decided to walk along the boardwalk to the observation tower first before the heat of the afternoon sun. It was a nice easy walk through the mangrove trees while we watched... More

Escape the beach crowds and dead to this lovely paddle trail in a pretty mangrove preserve. I enjoyed SUPing in the protected shallow waters. I checked the tides and thought it was coming off a high tide at 9am but it was still too shallow to pass marker #4 with my stand up paddle fin. So, I missed out getting... More

We were happy to learn when we got to Weedon Island Preserve on a Sunday that the center is now open from 11-4 on Sundays. That information is now on their website, but it was not at the time we visited in October. We spent 2-3 hours hiking the various trails and seeing the various sights. I came around the... More

I've been to this park multiple times and it's pretty nice. There are kayak rentals which are a lot of fun or you can just meander the boardwalks and admire nature. The nature center is a neat place to take a quick break from the heat!

Husband found info on this preserve online and we decided to check it out. We live about an hour south of St. Pete. The information center was very informative and the volunteer (forgot to get his name) was extremely friendly and helpful. After looking at the exhibits, we headed out on the boardwalk trails. It was very tranquil and easy... More

This preserve has a number of boardwalks and trails. There is also a pier that you can fish from. This is a nice quiet place to get out and check out nature.

Had a fantastic time with a whole bunch of my friends kayaking through the mangroves in Weedon Island a few weekends ago! Free to get in, the day was perfect, and we had so much fun!

I failed to check the time of the cultural center. Ended up driving an hour and a half without seeing the visitor center. It is open from Thursday through Sunday. The walking trail is quiet and exquisite with a well-constructed boardwalk of composite that is easy to negotiate. Despite not seeing the cultural center it was a lovely visit. Must... More

In addition to the kayak / canoe launch, they have numerous trails both on natural ground and on boardwalks. Most of the boardwalks do not have shade so choose a cooler time of day to visit. Every time we go we see some type of wildlife, from turtles, racoons, to owls or mullet skimming the surface of the estuaries. The... More

A friend and I decided to go kayaking at Weeden Island. We rented a couple of kayaks and headed out in the morning. The kayak rental staff was great and very helpful (they give you a map) It was low tide and we were a bit unlucky; but it was still a great trip! We liked paddling around the different... More
